10k Baht on entry into Thailand

Time to put this one into perspective, now this is gonna be an open poll on whether you or a friend of yours has had to show money on entry into Thailand, now this has to be a friend that you know, and when I say know he aint sitting there in a bar telling you tales of when he was in the SAS/Secret Service/CIA etc, ie somebody who is a friend and that you believe, also we aint interested in friend of friends, it has to be a direct friend of yours that has told you himself that he has had to show money on entry into Thailand, don't want none of this bullshite about a friend of a friend read somewhere that a friend of the writers sisters uncles friend had to show money at the border, you get the idea, either you yourself had to show money, or, a relatively close friend of yours has told you directly that they had to show money.

Posters with zero post counts your votes will be deleted.

In nearly 17 years of living in Thailand I don't know anybody who has ever had to show money at the Thai border.

i imagine that is reserved for people who look like they are coming to work in the country illegally. probably russian ladies do. i see it all the time at spore immigration but have never been asked myself.

not that i am a russian lady ofcourse.

young ladies from thailand, philippines and china also seem to get this question.

I've never had to but i remember of the last 03-04 visa scare Thai Visa reported that one of the Northern border crossings had begun enforcing it. Most of the Thai web forums; there always seems to be some impending issue which will forces farangs from the coutry in cattle trucks. Real people who don't use the Thai fporums never hear any of this shit and are better for it.

chickenlegs your vote don't count as you have never posted, so, so far it is 6 votes from posters that have never shown money nor have a friend who has had to show money at a Thai border crossing.

10k baht is not a particularly large amount anyway. wonder if they will let you go to an ATM if you dont have the cash on you

i've voted no, as i've lived here best part of 8 years on various visas and never been asked nor do i personaly know anyone who has, the only reason i mentioned it on another thread was that someone was claiming on thaivisa that they had, and also for people entering on visa exempt stamps it is apparantly a legal requirement just never enforced, or very rarely.

But that is the problem with forums, you never know if people are being honest or talking out their arse.

If anybody is ever asked to show it it will be because they have acted like a pompous bell end during the immigration procedure and the officers are just making life difficult for that person IMHO

The reason for this thread is to show the amount of scaremongers that there are on tv, thats why members who have never posted are not going to be included in this poll as they may just be pressing buttons to see what happens as they have never posted or participated.

I've prolly crossed the border nearly 100 times over the years. By boat, airplane, car, bus, taxi etc. Actually can't think of a method I've not used.. horse maybe. EDIT by train, never by train sadly.

I've entered from Burma, China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, US, Japan, Canada and Laos.

I've never been even asked about money and have never seen anyone reaching for a wallet or credit card or anything other than entry docs.

This rumor has always been a crock of shit.

Sometimes, for visa-exempts, never for visas. At Mae Sai back when I was doing 30 days I got asked a few times after about 10 trips. I've also seen lots of other people being asked there and once saw somebody being refused entry to Thailand there because he didn't have the money, after lots of shouting they took him off to the lock-up (because he was being a cnut, they even said if sombody just loaned hm the money until he crossed the border they'd let him through but he wouldn't have it). Only other place I've ever done the 30-day run was Aryanyaprathet/Poipet, never been asked to show money there.

I have never been asked. Nor have I ever been asked to show my passport to anyone outside of at immigration. Nor has anyone ever asked to see my work permit - apart from at the bank when I want to send out money.

I have no friends, so don't know if they have ever been asked
