Sushi - Do you like it?

I went for dinner with some Korean teachers and the missus two days ago for sushi at a rather expensive restaurant.

The started dishes were ok but I think they were vegetables of some sort cut into shapes.

When the fish came out an nice chunky built Korean lass sat beside me and rolled me up a bit of white fish around a piece of kimchi. I popped it in my mouth and started to chew and chew and chew and chew. The fucker wasn't going down. It split into chunks but it refused to masticated. I ended up swigging back a big glass of tea to get it down. The people thought that I had just been bothered by the tiny bit of wasabi on it.

I sat their with my stomach trying to reject the swallowed food. I had to grin and bear it. I started on a piece of salmon knowing that previously I had actually enjoyed it. Sadly this too was a fight and half to get down.

One of the Korean teachers then tried to give me what looked like a bright orange eyeball but I had to refuse and make some excuses about being nearly full.

I swallowed back a few gobfulls of vomit rather than spraying the table.

During all of this the missus was happily showing off and eating away. Little did I know she was discretely hiding it in a piece of tissue as she ate. She was clocked by one of the teachers who quietly ordered some cooked fish to ease our suffering.

Even when the cooked fish came I had a hard time keeping it down.

Horrible shite - I remebered why I hadn't eaten it for so long.

That doesn't sound like sushi mrsq --- kimchi has no place in it whatsoever, no matter what the natives say. You sure it was sushi, and not sashimi? The latter is some of the most disgusting shite I've ever had here.

Doesn't sound like sushi to me. When I think of sushi I think of slices of raw fish surrounded by rise and wrapped in seaweed, each one bite size.
Love it ,but it's ridiculously overpriced for what it is.

I thought sushi was raw seafood on top of compressed rice and sashimi was the same, but, without the rice.

That's NOT sushi you loco pommie! That's what Koreans maintain as a foul excuse for food. Just thinking about Korean food makes me gag.

Good sushi can be quite edible.

    While Korean food is not!

    He's right, Q..

What you ate was NOT sushi - but some kind of korean raw fish dish.

Sushi is NEVER served with Kimchee, well except for some of the 'japanese restaurants' in thailand.

I LOVE sushi. Love it Love it Love it!

Tuna, snapper, salmon roe, and sea-urchin are all divine.....

Most sushi in Thailand is average though ....... the difference being the fish is not as tasty/fresh as in japan, and using thai rice is just a no-no..

I'll be in Japan in august and cant wait to go mad at some of my old sushi haunts!

Mrsq you were most likely taken to a "raw fish" restaurant, as they're called here. My co-teachers took me to one a few months back. I couldn't eat anything they served so just sat there twiddling my thumbs and drinking their shite beer. It is definitely not sushi. The bit about serving it on a bed of vegetables sounds like sashimi, although I've never seen it served with kimchi, as that would just ruin the taste of the fish. Leave it to the Koreans to ruin a perfectly good dish - they've even managed to fuck up their sashimi (I find the stuff horrid but I do know loads of people who love sashimi).

Salmon was tolerable but still stinking.

However I don't really like fish.

It's good, but after awhile it all tastes the same. But I'd take Korean food over the whiny spoiled princess "omma! oppa!" bitches that we're subjected to here.

You obviously haven't aquired the taste

As has been stated a few times, sashimi is raw meat - usually seafood, but not always ..... and sushi is balls of rice mixed with vinegar, and topped with something - which is not neccessarily raw fish/seafood. Some sushi has cooked fish/seafood, cooked egg, seaweed, or something else...

Geeze there are some thickos around here....

    ^Nice av.

Sashimi is gross. When i was in Korea, they had sashimi buffets. All you can eat sashimi for 20$. Every kind of raw fish you can imagine.

They even had a whole tuna (a real tunafish) sitting on the table, slided in half while people stood around waiting for some raw tuna. feking gross. I hate raw fish.

^Yep there's one here in Busan near my apt. $15 for lunch, $20 for dinner. On one side they have sushi, on the other they have sashimi. Guess which side the Koreans horde?
