A Wedding Reception and now a hangover

We attended a wedding reception last night.

Our friend of many years tied the knot and threw a shindig without compare. The food was excellent as our friend is a restaurateur with several establishments both here and in Singapore and he managed the kitchen.

The red wine being served was sublime - American (egads on would think, but the US produces some brilliant drops) and French with a German Spätlese just to balance it out.

It was a lovely blend of Chinese and English-language entertainment - the band was brought in from HK.
The bride changed from a western bridal gown to a western evening dress, a Malaysian Baji Kurong and ended up in a stunning cheongsam.

My wife wore an emerald-coloured Indian sari, our daughters resplendent in white silk gowns and I just wore a black suit, green paisley tie (yes, I like paisley) and a white sea-island cotton shirt.

In case some posters have not yet had the pleasure of attending a Chinese wedding reception I'll post some pics.

    Downside . . . Hangover!

    The Menu:

A bit too much abalone, but their small NZ abalone was as tender as could be . . still tasted of nothing.

    Dod I mention the hangover?

    Oi Gewalt

A man who reads the fine print I would have suggested Vegemite sauce, but the guy studied in the UK! Pshaw!

Very nice, by the way . . .

I do like those revolving Chinese dinner tables. Encourages sharing and civilised conversation. Unlike Thai gatherings where the family just reach over and nick stuff off your plate, the bloddy savages.
My hangover cure has remained constant for many years now. Go for a run, bike ride or gym session to release all the toxins, then a full english washed down with sweet tea and gallons off OJ.
PS no sympathy for elderly scoundrels such as yourself.

These weren't even okay in the '70s, which was the one time anyone remotely thought they were okay. Unless your name is Prince... you should only wear paisley when [it's a mandatory part of a wedding dress code]. And even then, maybe consider not going to said wedding. Girls thought this stuff was ironically thrift store chic, but all it said was "The '70s died, and what it evacuated from its bowels ended up on my shirt."

I seem to remember paisley pattern shirts being a bit trendy in a kitsch kind of way when I was at uni although maybe I am mis-remembering that.

American wine has in some cases surpassed the frogs. It has been proven that the napa valley is perfect for wine.

Agreed no stigma should be attached to purchases from the colonies.

Decency forbids taking and publication of said women . . . added to which my wife would object. There were some rather nice ladies in attendance, though - fashion was seen everywhere . . . my paisley tie usurped them all, of course. It was a statement.

I hate these ridiculous weddings here, everybody just sit at his table and nobody mix / talk with other tables.

Only a buffet is friendly, the rest if for me only for Asian or people who do not know what a nice wed means...

But I agree that within many years I only found 1 person with enough brain to do something different and friendly, so its good that you enjoy the poor things that you can get here, but I just prefer to stay home...
