    Most tourists are muppets!!

I watched this bloke argue with a tuk-tuk driver over 10 baht!!
The journey was 40baht but in the "Lonely Planet it said 30!!!!!!!!!!
He continued bitching for about 15 minutes before the driver gave in.
Not the first time I've seen this happen and it won't be th last.

Put your hands up and step away from the book!

Lonely planet is responsible for all the back-packer ant-trails.
Seems like the backpackers are far less adventurous than they were in my day (yes, I was a backpacker once). I used to avoid other tourists and backpackers and choose paths less travelled.

LP is a very useful guide book, but is misused to the point of stupidity

dont blame the book, just look at the user. Insecure, following some out-of-date recommendation to the letter, like a flock of stupid sheep

it has its advantages, now you know where not to go as you can be assured it will be full of sheep
    I have reported your post

Twats abound, everywhere. How about the clueless ones who pay 600 baht for the tuk tuk because they are 'independent thinkers' who despise guide books?

..or feel pity for the 'poor' locals and don't mind paying double because it's still cheap compared to xxxland.

You are all wrong, taking the tuk tuk was the mistake and any guidebook that even suggests to take a tuk tuk for another reason than the novelty of it is useless.

Anyone know why some Thai towns are full of tuk tuks and others have none?

When I lived on Ratchada, it was tuk tuk or motorsi, and it is a bit difficult on a motorsai with five bags of groceries.

The sois where I lived where too narrow for taxies. If you ran into another car, one or the other would have to back up eight or nine little sois, which twisted and turn to let the other out.

Of course that was after they had sat their blowing their horns at each other for five minutes!

Specially the driver, as you will inevitably pay more than an air-con taxi would cost for the same distance.

you should take a course in "tuktuk bargaining"

    1. if they want to charge too much, just try another one

^But out of the tourist areas, they are just a set price.

Why are the drivers always so ugly, though?
