Tell us about your birth-place (upload pics if possible)

I hope not to get flammed for initiating this thread. It'd be nice if we, members, who come from different corners of the world with diverse clutural background, post some pics of our birth-place if possible and write down a few lines about it.

To keep the ball rolling I start with my birth-place. The place I come from is called 'Quetta' located in the south-west of Pakistan and it lies 1,680 meters above sea level. Quetta is a small city surrounded by hills on all four sides with all four season. The population of my city is well below 1 million with an area of about 2,500 sq. km.

Quetta is a triable area where Persians, who later mixed with Mangkols, Pushtuns and Balochs live in peace and harmony. Quetta tribesmen are strong and silent in their bearing. They're known for their friendliness and hospitality.

Quetta is also a major domestic tourism spot. It envisages all colour of thrill and adventure. A wide variety of mammals like wild sheep, leopards, wolves, hyena, hares, wild cats and porcupines can be found in the mountains of Quetta. While birds may contain species of partridge, warblers, blue rock pigeon, golden eagle, sparrows, hawks and falcons etc.

The temperature goes up to 37C in summer and it can drop 15 below zero in winter. Normally the snow fall starts around Christmas and it ends somewhere in March.

    Some pics of my birth-place:

So what's your birth place like?

My work computer has a fokked up firewall so I can't access GoogleEarth.
I've even got a copy of the program at home but can't get a look in.
    Pisses me orf that does.

I was born in a typical suburban slum in South Australia.
A place called Salisbury, 25 kms north of the rather dull capital Adelaide.
My backyard had over 40 mature fruit and almond trees.
My neighbor became one of the local mafia drug lords.
Darren Lehmann played for the local cricket club.
I spent my fomulative years in the infamous 'Salisbury Snooker Hall'.

    poxy street map:

and that's as good as it gets!!

Is it possible to write a few lines about your birth place and upload a picture(s) like Marmite did? I'm too curious to find out more. Thanks.

Dhahran was an American fenced camp when I was born, population was about 5,000 people. There were also two smaller sister cities both fenced in. Abqaiq where I grew up, and Ras Tanurra, where the oil is put on the tankers. It was a great place to grow up. Like living in a vacuum, there were no problems at all. And the Aramco employees got 1 month vacation one year, and then 3 months the second. I had been around the world 4 times before I was 12. First trip back was on a DC 3, a two propellor and 30 passenger aircraft.
    Life was grand.

    bladdy hell....

Well I moved there in 1979......and stayed until 1992. Before that, you are correct, I was born in Frankston hospital, and grew up on the Victorian mornington peninsula. We lived in Mt.Eliza, and spent summers in Blairgowrie - a sleepy little town on the tip of the peninsula with enough fish to fill up an esky (ice-box for our merkin viewers) in the space of a few hours. I was happy to see, after returning there after a 20 absence in 2003, that the fishing is still just as good! .......think I've got some pics somewhere....

    Happy now?
