    Russian tourists…

I happen to be down at the immigration office in BKK for my yearly renewal. While normally, this procedure has usually been quick, today was the exception.

During my 4-hour wait, I noticed several things. Sorry, don’t have any pics. It seems that the powers in place tend to frown upon family shots.

There was the usual cluster of Western tourists with their young and not so young significant other. I saw tattoos (English ones seem to be rather popular), grey ponytails, beer bellies and other faces that led me to believe that they would be rather lonely in their home countries.

Throw in the Saudis with head gear, Koreans, Indians, and well you get the picture. Pretty busy day!

Regardless, I was really amazed at the Russian tourists. At one point I counted up to 15 sorta young Russian ladies. They must really like being a tourist in Thailand, as it seemed many of them had numerous 90-day extensions. I don’t speak Russian or even Russian-English, but there were several heated discussions at the counter. Some of the Russian tourists was obviously brand new and had no idea on how to stay in the Kingdom longer than expected. Luckily they has a head Russian lady helping them out. Funny though, never did see any Russian boyfriends or husbands…

There is no such thing as a 90-day extension for a tourist visa.

^Well maybe you are right. But it was at least a 30-day extension. Next time I will take a foking photo!

I know Line #3 was 90-day 'let them know where you are at' and Line #2 was the tourist extensions.

Line #5 was the 7-day tourist extensions. Never did understand this line. Saw a lot of grand-dads holding their grand-babies trying to be patient with the paperwork...

a lot of Russian hookers these days. Thai males market is booming.

Also Pattaya immigration is getting tough now, I mean really tough. They might have to try their luck in Bangkok instead for an extension.

That may explain it, a 90 day extension for a visa tied to a work permit.

    I don't think so.

I made it in 2 hours, today !

I passed near by of the hilbilly so !

I just saw your face, and was thinking to recognise you from some of your posts... ( next year i will great you, sorry...)

I was on my way out to go for some shots as they like to have new shot each year, the same same last year was no more ok for them file !

i can't in no way remember this sentence they have over the desks, but it is something like,

payment fee only for documents, do not believe anyone

    -------

i made a new passport for my daughter, we have to transfer the immigration paper from the old passport to the new one, the officer said that he cannot do it, we will have to go to Ventiane or anywhere abroad for it, i asked if there was still no requirement of visa for kids under 17 year old and he said, the law changed !! ???

Should know more about this by tomorow !

I have the law document in Thai and translated in english about this underage no visa requirement, so overstay does not matter...

I gave a copy to a friend who went to immigration, they said they prefer if people do not know this, as they need the money...

One of my daughter had to go for near 4 years to Cambodia each month, for the stupid stamp, i really hope we wont have to do this again...

According to Ms. B the most hated tourists in this area are Koreans (demanding), followed by Russians (drunk) followed by Americans (always want things their way, just like "back home").

Yeh it's a real pain in the arse this clocking in every 90 days. Last time the bitch tried to charge as an overstayer because the stamp on the 90 day slip was passed. I pilotly told her bullshit look at when I last entered Thailand. I'd already highlighted this with a yellow post-it thingy. Another time I got there two weeks early and was told to come back next week. Due again 29 June so will see if straight forward or not.

I was surprised to find the number of upmarket Russian tourists there are in Pattaya. These seem to travel in family groups- I visited a friend staying in the most expensive wing of the Royal Cliff resort a couple of months back, and according to both of us it was at least 50% Russian occupied.
I heard, but have no idea if it is true, that most of the working girls come from one of the 'Stans? I certainly would not go to one of those Russian GoGo places anyway, they're generally considered to be rip offs, and the local wildlife is much more interesting.

^You don't have to go in person, but you're passport has to go - depends whether you trust someone to do it.
