I am starting to realize Thailand is not as fucked up as we make it to be. Sure it's third world, but it's also getting worse out there in the "real" world.
If you think Thailand is dysfunctional and fucked up, then you haven't tried Estern Europe and the new EU countries. When it comes to being fucked up those countries are on a heated competition. Between their Visa rules, the business environment, and the overall value of the country, they don't even come close to Thailand. First, it's fucking freezing in those fucked up countries, people are grimmed (not smilling), food is horrible (worst than English if that was even possible) and cost of living is generally very expensive for an expat. To make things worse, they are not really business or tourist friendly and their staff are generally lazy and can't do anything right. Incompetence is general and the old Soviet style of work ethics is still in place. But at least they are trying. Their only positive is the hordes of hot women sitting around and ready to be picked up by handsome foreigners for a bit of shopping overseas.
So I have to say, that Thailand is still a bargain. The days of the THB @ 40 are over, but even at 35, it's still a good deal. Try living in France, Germany and the UK these days. People are house poors (thanks to their mortgage) and have to work all the time while knowing they won't get their retirement money once they are too old. Some don't even have time to take vacation because of their work responsabilities.
So fuck it, Thailand is still a good place for an easy lifestyle and a dormitory, things are not getting better out there. Might as well stay here and get tanned.
