Fozzy, you know I'm not attempting to turn a matter of taste into a matter of facts.

The only thing that can be stated confidently is that millions of people have absolutely no taste whatsoever, particularly when it comes to music. Therefore the argument that something popular cannot be shit must be either idiotic or willfully obtuse.

    Whichever it is, I'll pass.

The popularity of music is a reflection of marketing by record labels. The largest profits are generated in the teen demographic group. Therefore the marketing focus remains on this group and they drive what is considered good within a contemporary time frame. As we age we move out of the target and our tastes are not promoted as much and become less significant to the music industry.
Anybody here a fan of One Direction?

MTV killed off a helluva lot of good pop / rock music. After MTV, it was more about the video than the band or the music. Less talented acts but with better visual appeal (most of the OP's top 10, and currently any top 10) came to the fore. Simple songs-w/ simple sentiment lyrics-simpletons buying it up in droves.

Dave Matthews was not of this era nor false MTV promotion...

Yet, has a extremely popular following without the use of mainstream.

Out of all the fantastic songs in 1969, that one was #1 in UK when I was born. Sickening

As for that list, I like half the bands on it.... Guess I'd better get me coat

    I don't know guys...

    music is art...

one person may love something and another person hates it...

I hate ABBA some of you may love it... does not mean either of us are wrong...

for me you could put any of the 80's English faggot bands on that list (Wham/Petshop Boys/Boy George/Duran Duran etc...)

This is a great message board.... For me to poop on!
