Baby Zebra born at Dusit Zoo is named 'Carl'
Bangkok's Dusit Zoo announced the winner of their competition to find a name for their new addition. Suggested by 7 year old Jukvow Haanporn (Narb) from Chaing Mai, the baby zebra has been named 'Carl'.
Questioned as to how he chose the name Narb said that the zebra was very small and looked mao, so he decided to name it after a farang living in his moo baan.
To mark the special occasion, Zoological Park Organization director-general Sophon Dumnui said, the Dusit Zoo will be given a scholarship and one-year free ticket to the zoo.
Narb was especially pleased with the scholarship as his mother is having difficulties paying for her son's education since her husband mysteriously disappeared 2 months ago. Narb's mother looked very anxious when we pressed her for more details, but refused to be drawn further.
Still to be decided is the name for the rare baby albino common barking deer that was born at Dusit Zoo on April 7. The winner of the naming contest will receive Bt10,000 prize money. The contest ends June 20.
