    Do you get aromsea living in Thailand

    I try not to I really do but in the end you have to blow a bit of fuse just to stop yourself from whacking one of the daft buggers here.

    Two weeks back me and mrs went back to the Nokia shop who had forgotten to give her the receipt for a new phone. While there she asked how to do something simple on the phone, nobody knew despite only selling phones and just Nokia ones at that which they play about with all day. We were even told the phone on display that we wanted ours set up like was not the same, of course it was identical, idiots.

    Next stop posh tiles shop, picked our tiles after looking at it for a while, putting on floor and so on, all watched by the 'assistant'. Right we'll have 30 meters of this one, no have, er why not, not make them any more! So why have you got them on display then and why not tell us before?- blank stare. OK what about this one then, yes have but have to order, ok have you got this one, yes have, are you sure? yes ok that one then, oh that wrong price gone up more. So why have you got the wrong price on this and all the other tiles then?- blank look. Well ok if you let us have them at the shown price we will have them, no cannot gone up, right bye then.

    Several other such examples since then including AIS taking 4 months to set up a simple standing order when it should have been 'only' 45 days. This week bought a new air con from power buy, paid but the bloke in the shop said if we paid for the ducting to the fitters it might be less than the 850 paying in the shop, ok thanks for that. Fitters turn up 6 hours late and instead of 850 they say it's 1500, time for mr falang to start shouting, works anyway as the price comes back down to 850 if they used an off cut for one part, mrs 'lost face' due to the old aromsea, but i'm past caring.

    Now we have true coming on Friday, have to cancel the AIS debit, bet that will be a doddle! Last time we had true at another place it took them two weeks to turn up, I will be amazed if they turn up and it's free for 3 months as agreed, these things can happen anywhere can't they? Might go out on Friday come to think of it.

    Only in thailand??

    Oz, built new house. Call foxtel, yes can cable 4 weeks from thursday. Great you think, just in time for the cricket.
    Doesn't turn up, ring to inquire, sorry about that we can make a new appointment in 4 weeks from now. No you say, fuck that, give me next of the rank. No policy, in 4 weeks. Take your cable and shove it up you arse you say.
    Get courtesy call from some dickhead wanting to know why you cancelled the connection.

    Getting phone connected to a new house, hah.
    Doesn't turn up on the day you have taken off work. Ring to rip someone a new asshole, new appointment, another day off work. Guy turns up and does all the cabling except the connection. Doesn't fucking tell you. Weeks pass of you calling to be told it has been connected and you arguing it fucking well has not...

    I don't know about OZ but this sort of crap service seemed to be the norm in NZ from what I was told. I do think the Thais a very good at this though.

    Aussies do have a lot in commonwith Thais, it's true. But yes, a good strangling often seems like the best solution when dealing with these idiots.

    I think it's just that it's more or less always like this, something going smoothly is the exception and when caught out the squirming, lies, excuses and blaming others is laughable. We once bought something on offer at big c, at the till the price was higher, but it was priced on a big display with the lower price in a big star printed on the board. After arguing the toss with the manager I went back to take a pic of the board ( at mrs insistence!) While we had been talking a staff member had beaten me to it and cut the price out neatly around the star leaving bare cardboard. In the end was all wai's and the 5 baht back, I know, I would just not have bothered with that one, but it made me laugh that rather than admit it they would do that.

    I am known pretty much to come off as an อารมณ์เสีย (bad mood) kinda guy. Once thaiz know me, they find out I'm just a พูดตรงไปตรงมา (straight talkin') guy, maybe with a little คำหยาบ (profanity) and some ประชด (sarcasm) thrown in for good measure.

    I don't suffer fools of any nationality, and sometimes I'm pushed to the limit by these people and what passes for customer service here. About the only upside is, I can speak thai well enough to back people into corners where the only face saving way out for them is to do what I want.

    I've found in ANY store the FIRST thing you ask is how much stock of a particular item they have on hand even before you're sure you want it. The penchant of these half-wits to keep stuff on display which is no longer stocked or out of stock just so the shelf looks good can press your buttons pretty fast if you let it.

    The other one is something on sale, which is sold out except for the display which they won't sell because then they'll be no display of something they don't have. Invariably asking when it will be back in stock is answered, "After sale finish." Shrewd marketing ploy on their part.

    Remember just because a thai says, "Cannot!", it doesn't mean they can't do what you want. It just means that the particular person you're talking to doesn't know how to do it. Given the cultural restrictions these people operate within, they can't say, they don't know (they'd lose face), so they spout out the knee-jerk, pat answer "CANNOT" and then start sorting paperclips, pencils, etc in hopes you just lose the will to live and go away.

    The other day the internet was out, I called my ISP and they said "Now internet down for all the world". I was like, WOW, I didn't see that email in the in-box saying the entire world wide web was down for maintenance!

    Scheduled a maintenance appointment anyway, gave them my mobile number, got a time, hung around 2 hours after the time window, finally went to get something to eat, only to have him show right up, as if he was watching my door to see when I'd leave the house.

    Thankfully I headed him off on the street as he was tryin' to beat a hasty exit. Much to his chagrin I wouldn't let him into the house (because they always try to pin their fuck-ups on my brand new wiring). I just took him to the phone box in the hallway where the lines come in and had him check the connection comin' off the street. Low and behold, there was no signal. A walk out to the switch on the Soi, a sturdy bamboo ladder, 10 minutes of his time later and presto my internet was working, along with the entire rest of the world too I presume..

    FWIW: I've been here 10 years too, and I still barely tolerate these people on a good day. As I said, I get confused on whether I live here in spite of the thaiz or just to spite them.

    yes welcome to LOS ,I had many such no have and order problems during the early years.

    All I can say expect really friendly pre-sales shoddy or non existent once they have your money ,rather like marriage probably wiser to go for really high quality and resign yourself to no more upgrades.

    One of the joys of coller North I find I become less frustrated.
    Depsite the bright lights,attractions glossy goods trips to Malls shopping centres are always frustrating,waste half a day ,the car park stench and then from ice cold back to a sweaty drive home.

    I find a lass who can give a good tug some local food and odd Lhao Khao has kept the bumpkins happy and me too.The less stuff you have the less to clean insure repair etc
    I used to have a job at a calendar factory.
    I got the sack because
    I took a couple of days off.

    Hey, hey! Easy now boyz, I resemble those remarks!

    I throw thai phrases in what I write to see if eventually some of it will "trickle down" and enter your sub-conscious. I had hopes early on that suddenly you'd all wake up speaking in tongues, err I mean in thai..
    Alas I think I'm with those hopes

    Face it unless someone actually knew the O/P was talking about a bad mood or upset which can be อารมณ์เสีย; there's no way most foreigners here would know the spelling of "aromsea" is really pronouced aa-rom sǐa like this; อารมณ์เสีย

    Not that you asked or care but;
    FWIW: Even though my given name Todd Daniels uses 2 d's; I dropped one of them. It was after the 100th thai looked at the english spelling and pronounced it Toddy!

    I spell my name in English as Tod Daniels, and in thai like this; ท้อด แดเนี่ยลซ์. I couldn't make a user name with a hyphen on here, so had to run it together unlike the name I use on most other forums tod-daniels... Sorry 'bout that..

    The reason I chose that thai permutation of Tod; over say ถอด "remove" as in ถอดเสื้อผ้า "remove your clothes" or ทอด "deep fried" as in ไก่ทอด "fried chicken" was that ท้อด has NO meaning in thai other than as a name. Even the thais can't fuck that up.

    Come on nearly 70 million of the thaiz seem to read, write, speak and understand this language.

    You ain't tellin' me every last rice-picking one of these people is smarter than you are? Hang about, are you tellin' me that?

    FWIW Dillinger; I think if you look up in a thai dictionary nowadays they have this pic next to the word "cnut";

    Todd do you have True by any chance? They were meant to come today to install, rang last night to ask of they could turn up 7 hours late today, we are off traveling before that, so no to that. Then they agreed to original time set by them, 11A.M. They rang at 7 this morning and woke us up asking if they could come at 7.30, as we did not get to be 'till 2 that was another no, not that they would have turned up anyway. So the next one is Wednesday, I await more calls and excuses.!

    Tried that a few times, they usually claim they have everything in stock, then you find the next one you want it a no have also. The most laughable was in a restaurant with about 24 ice creams on the menu, we kept picking ones and the girl would run off and back with no have. After three choices we asked what they did have- just vanilla and chocolate out of 24, it could have gone on all night!

    Honestly, I do have True Visions (cable t/v) and True Online (ADSL internet), and the "appointment window" they give you NEVER works. They're either calling hours early, or not calling, not showing up until hours late.

    The best thing I've found that you can do is;
    The True service techs are divided to areas, so chances are if the guy comes to your house, he's one of the techs assigned to your area. If he does even a half-way decent job, get HIS mobile number!!!

    Fuck callin' True! Call the service tech directly. Now granted, it might cost you a 100 baht to get him to come out and do what you need. But man, I've had 'em come over a 9 at nite, sort out a problem for me AND then go out Soi side and drink some beer with me.

    That's the best advice I can give really concerning True...

    Loy Toy; I don't know if I "Sure Know Something" (as that's a pretty lame-assed song even for KISS, which face it, has sorta lame-assed songs to begin with!!).

    However, I have been known to "Shout It Out Loud", when I'm not a happy camper here!
