Thread: Smeg or DrAndy -- Who's Right?

Before he retired Smeg used to brand me a "Thaiophile" for being too complimentary of Thais. On the other hand, DrAndy has called me a racist and other nasty things for being too critical of the way Thais do things.

Who's right, Smeg or DrAndy?

As you only joined in May I doubt this scenario. You're not a patch on Buadhai.

If you've become a "stay in" you need an appropriate hobby. May I suggest you collect empty cans, plastic bottles and old newspapers. Pile them up inside the house. It works for me.

Seriously a few empty threats from a fat australian idiot shouldn't affect your behaviour.

It wasn't the Australian idiot. That didn't bother me. But after I got banned from TV the "friends" I had here (all TV members) just sort of abandoned me. One, for whom I had actually done some favors, started rumors that I was gay and even joined some gay forums using the Buadhai name and avatar. I can do without friends like that.

Not really a friend then more of an asshole. Funny the small town mentality of farangs in Thailand.

Chat board rivalries amuse me actually- I am a member of two chat boards that are bitter enemies. Is this TV/TD thing because many of our members are outspoken types who got banned from TV, or what?

Anyway BD, speaking as the thick skinned type, just join in the fun, don't take it seriously, and work on the assumption that anyone who tries to pigeonhole you is wrong. Your posts seem fine to me.

I guess what I was looking for in this thread was an exploration of the irony that people tend to find what they are looking for. Smeg seemed to revel in exposing "Thaiophiles" while DrAndy loves to chide people for what he sees as, perhaps, excessive generalization about traits we seem to recognize in the behavior of Thais.

Plus, I need 14 more posts to get back into the "Members" forum.
