    A new direction in life.

    Well....it's finally done.

Yesterday afternoon I told my staff that I have sold my business.

One of Australias major newspapers has offered enough money for me to sign on the botom line. They first contacted me before I moved to Thailand 3 years ago and since I returned have been more and more insistent. Following meetings in Perth in November and a visit here 4 weeks ago it has all been settled.

Settlement is July 1 and then they want to keep me on for 3 months to handover to the new manager.

As to the future, well who knows? We will now be finacial enough to basically do what ever we want. For the short time I see us moving to New Zealand for 2 years and running a restuarant over there. I can also see us building a house in Thailand but after that I'm really not to sure.

I feel excited but also bloody sad. I had two staff members in tears last night, the paper has been my heart and soul for the last 10 years but deep down I know that it is time to move on.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

Best of luck to you MeMock. Are you sure you're old enough to retire?

Let me add my congratulations. But bugger running a restaurant; I take my hat off to anyone who could put up with me as a customer.

Congratulations MM- it's very satisfying to build up a business yourself and then sell it on at a profit. And a nice position to be in to decide what you want to do next.
Hopefully I'll be in similar shoes one day, as I have an equity in a business which should be snapped up by a financial institution in due course.

    Congratulations, MeMock.

Sad to part ways at times, but it sounds like a great run.

All the best to you, and this new restaurant, in NZ.

Congrats, but if you already know Thailand and plan to have a home here, why go all the way to NZ to open a restaurant?

Pty is alive and well, and if your grub is anywhere near edible you start off with a following.

Nope - I'm only 30 years old, If I retired I would go stir crazy. If I had a hobby I would retire but seeing I don't its back to work for me.

Well I had it all planned to have a BBQ at my place for a few close friends - however the rumour got out around town yesterday morning so yesterday arfos staff meeting was a little rushed which then put a kabosh on the party

Instead I went out last night and got a bit drunk which is a bit unusual and I am regreting it this morning.

My mum and dad ave retired to NZ so we are thinking of joining them for a season or two in Tauranga (Bay of Plenty - North island)

Spent 5 weeks there over Christmas and fell in love with the place.

MM, be careful when falling in love with a fish. They do not understand the concept of commitment. I speak from bitter experience.

Anyhow, congratulations on your successful business deal. I hope that it doesn't change you and that you remain the same lovable drooling ape-like creature that we have grown to love here on TD.
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

On a serious note MM, you shouldn't assume that having money will make you happy....Only joking, of course it will.
