Stick it in the freezer for a bit. Get a load of different pickled stuff, chop up and put on a plate.

Get a shot glass, vodka out of the freezer and pickled stuff at the ready.

my russian colleague just came back from his RnR and picked it up at the airport for me - it is not the rinky dink stuff from Crimea , but it is bottled in St Petersburg under licience

I will sip it gently fresh from the freezer with an accompaniment of le tapas of chilli tuna on dried toasts while watching westworld series 2

Good vodka should be enjoyed with good Zakuski- oily fish will soak up the booze and lessen the hangover if you overindulge, once you open the vodka tradition dictates you crush the cap if drinking with friends.

Simple Zakuski:

Black bread
Tinned mackerel or herring
Chopped onion and tomato

Very simple, but goes well with vodka

Not Russian, but I love vodka with raw Dutch red herring.

The Romanee-Conti is considered one of the world's best Burgundy wine.

A bottle of 1945 Romanee-Conti Burgundy wine was sold for a record breaking $785,000 at a Sotheby's auction in New York over the weekend.

Key points:

The previous world record for a standard bottle was $328,000 for a 1869 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, sold in 2010
Another 1945 Romanne-Conti bottle went under the hammer on Saturday at $698,000
The Romanne-Conti were in the personal collection of Robert Drouhin

It smashed the previous world record of $328,000 for a standard bottle when a 1869 Chateau Lafite Rothschild was sold in Hong Kong in 2010.

A few minutes after the global record-breaking bottle was sold, another 1945 Romanee-Conti went under the hammer, also at Sotheby's in New York, for $698,000.

The bottles were in the personal collection of Robert Drouhin, from a prominent wine producing family.
Mr Drouhin's father made an agreement in 1928 with the owners of Romanee-Conti to be their sole distributor for France and Belgium — and consequently amassed a unique wine collection.
