    Superstition

I went to Central Department Stores, Bangna, a few days ago to pay for the bills. The department store was over-crowded and it took me quite a long time to spot a vacant space for parking. The first floor was packed with cars so I went to 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2 etc. When I reached 4 1/2 I was surprised to see only a handful of cars were parked! I thought it might be reserved parking spaces for the shop owners so I went to the last floor (5th) hopping to get space there. It surprised me a lot to see the 5th floor packed with cars. I went back to 4 1/2 and asked one of the security guards if I could park there. He couldn't understand what I was saying, perhaps cos of my poor Thai accent, so I had to call someone who could speak Thai. The security guard told him that it ain't any reserved car park for shop owners. Anyone can park there. My curosity increased and I asked the person on phone to find out why people ain't parking on 4 1/2. The security guard told him that three months ago police killed a couple of drug pushers on this floor and now nobody parks here cos they believe the souls of dead are still there and it may harm them.

Do you guys believe in such things? Why Thais are so superstitious and have you ever come across such situation?

Yes, I had a friend who told me that someone had thrown a headless dog into their compound. It was believed to be a curse and to frighten them away. They had to get the local shaman to come and make the spirits happy so that the curse did not work. That was in Pakistan though
    I have reported your post

oh you mean a "stitious" ....nope

but I know someone who does...

stitious - Less than superstitious. Characterized by only a moderately
irrational belief that unrelated objects or actions will affect outcomes.
e.g., After breaking the mirror, Lou, merely stitious, knew he
would only be in for 2 years of bad luck.

I had a bad girlfriend a few years back who managed to lock herself in my room for 15 minutes one night. Eventually she was dragged out and I never saw her again.
Some time later a new girlfriend was changing the sheets when she found a pair of knickers under the mattress and an unused tampon under the mattress protector.
Naturally she quizzed me on their origin of which I knew nothing.
She explained that putting female items in a bed is a form of curse aimed at giving any future occupants of the bed loads of bad luck in the boom boom zone.
I shagged that girl solid for 4 days and then sent her on her way somaybe it was bad luck for Noi but not for me!

My stepson said he saw his grand father, who died two years ago, in the house. It was not really frightening I understood but he was merely looking if everything is alright.
No wonder he just dropped in, the temple is on the other side of the soi.

One of my twins saw my mom sleeping in the guest room. Being that she died 11 months before they were born is kinda strange. Had a lost earring turn up as well. The maids hear a lady praying in English in the Buddah room. But it doesnt bother me. The ghost story scares the shit outa my student though. By the way she did see the ghost.

Once, when i waz very young a dream entered in my one functional brain cell while in a deep sleep. I thought I was macho/macha and was swimming against the raging current to save me dawg.

Turns out, I was drowning in my own piss.

Well this is well spooky. I just turned my laptop off coz I had to nip down to the depot and had no idea how long it was gonna take to sort out. I made sure to turn it off coz I am back to just using the laptop screen coz it hasnt been playing up lately. Anyway, I get back about a half hour and not only is my laptop on but the Teakdoor forum is open. And no, I aint been on the weed. Spooky or what?

I'm a real killjoy on things like this - I don't for one second belive that people are lying about supernatural experiences - I just think that their brains try to make sense of confusing signals to come up with some kind of solution, however illogical that may be......Apart from the Capt, who's just a bit dozy sometimes.

In Japan, if you cut your toe-nails at night, you won't see your parents die! -according to Japanese superstition (true)

^Where the goodness does that come from? I mean, at least in the UK superstitions have some kind of reasoning behind them, e.g. if a black cat walks under a ladder on Friday 13th then it must throw salt over its left shoulder lest it walk on the cracks in the pavement.......Probably just one of the reasons a UK citizen is more likely to be the first human to have a nice long walk on Mars........what's the bloody matter with this 'n' key......oh, it's working again now.....

Not really sure, but I'll take a crack at it..

Japanese families traditionally live in 'one room', and given that they are all in the same room at night, it's just plain bladdy rude to start cutting and flicking your toe-nails around the place (
not that I have anything personal against it)
, and since your parents are the ones who are s'possed to teach you manners, then your punishment for having not listened to them, is you miss out on being there when they croak it.. >>>>>>>>

    Simple explanation.

It's beacuse Japanese rooms are so bloody small that when you cut your toe nails the cliipings ricochet off the walls, if you do it in the dark you don't see the clippings as they fly into your eyes and blind you.
    Lord, deliver us from e-mail.

Yup! ~ many 'superstitions' were 'created' to install manners and etiquite..
