Positive Natural Thinking (My 1001st post!)

Have you ever seen those ads for HSBC bank? (Example below) - There are loads of them, especially at Heathrow - and they are all 2 different couples of identical photos with different slogans denoting different viewpoints, for example, a picture of a plate of sushi next to a picture of a hamburger meal with the title 'Delicious' under one and 'Unpalatable' under the other, then the same pair of pictures with the word/atonym swapped.

Well the same could be applied to how one views ones life, for example - a born again Christian may be living a deluded and 'clean' life that we would never dream of, but they are happy.

Back in England I know of a man who was at the same school as me who wears a special helmet, he has some kind of brain abnormality which got the piss taken out of him back in the 80's. He's worked in the Co-Op supermarket in Thame, Oxfordshire, since leaving school, yet he's happy as Larry!

I think it's safe to say that many of us westerners in Asia are rather cynical, I know I am one of the most negative people around and it makes me drink too much, it makes me and those close to me miserable and it also makes me act a complete prick at times, be it online or in reality.

The persuit of happiness is one that can't be found at the bottom of a beer bottle or dancing round a pole, and no matter many pretty girls we sleep with (IF that's our life) - we sometimes still feel unsatisfied as if something is missing and some of us grow to believe we are unlovable and only good for whatever cash we can give to our host country and I believe it is this that causes the general air of expat cynicism.

I personally find it very difficult to see the glass as half full and wish I could train myself to do so without the use of drugs - is it possible?

I have observed over the years that the happiest people are the simplest ones, be they thick or dim witted or un-complicated, logical people who think positive and therefore positive things happen.

I may have clocked up 60 pages on my Emergency - Please Help thread, but what have I achieved? Nothing really, and as Sandra pointed out I'm going to do what I'm going to do whatever, which is true - however I did get some positive feedback but not enough to fill just one of those 60 pages because the majority of us have been victims of women or Asian women at some point.

So, if you fit the description of 'negative expat' as I do, how can we look on the bright side without drugs or Jesus and improve our lives and the lives of those around us?
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

    No.

hahahahahaha - i can think of one or two members who may not be so happy with their belief in Jesus being compared to drug use!

    but carry on.....

BTW - despite the title I have a feeling that this will run out to be yet another scampy production of self angst and moaning,

Have you ever read the ADrian Mole Diaries by ?Sue Townsend?

    might see yerself in them.

Maybe an auto lock feature should be implemented on some posters threads. Say when it gets upto 50 posts it should just shut down

thats a good idea, in fact perhaps we can modify it so that if other posters also start posting drivel, hair loss remedies for instance, it also locks down!

    This proves my point exactly!

I stated that I am generally negative but I am currently 'at peace with myself' for want of a better phrase and experiencing a rare phase of clarity and contentment.

Please do not steer this thread back into me then use it to condone comments such as the one below - come on, treat this as the subject it is, it's irritating that I am always a victim of my own openness because my most popular threads are the honest personal ones and they stick to me like shit and follow me wherever I go, don't let this be the case.

I have a feeling that this will run out to be yet another scampy production of self angst and moaning

Things are great because I am thinking positive for once, I posted this thread to see if there was a way I could stay like this, I was hoping for some pearls of wisdom that could maintain a positive attitude, meditation or a change in diet. 90% of the negativity regarding the recent situation was from this forum.

Granted one reaps what one sows but be fair, and incedentally my state of employment is nobody's business, I'm fine for money and am paying my way; the avatar is self mocking and my prolificacy on this forum is due to my non existent interaction with westerners here.

I'm learning a lot about myself and working on more productive things so I can be self employed by the end of the year. Is it a mere delusion that I see most of you as cyber aquaintances? I know I think to much, I'm trying to change the way I think, the way I am and the way I live - if it's too late to change my online reputation or recieve any respect then perhaps I should start by taking a long break from here, creating a new nick or finding another place to hang out.

...Or maybe just start a thread on the Porkinson Banger or the emancipation of Kirsty Bunglemuffin.

    Derailed, hijacked and Porkinson Bangered!

Squirrel, I wasted post #1,000 telling you to cheer up, why should I listen to your advice.

If I may get back on topic, I read somewhere that dark chocolate balances the mind but I don't know if its true or not. Manic depression is something that can be tamed like a dog, or in my case a pangolin.

Some people don't have the atience to meditate so maybe kicking the booze is the answer to contentment? That's not what I have done but I still feel rather nice, hope it lasts.
