As of last week same for me.. I took am extended amount of leave following the loss of my dear mother... And though my employer was more than understanding,, they still have a business to run. I was warned that if I didn't return soon they'd have no choice but to replace me, Which I understand... I just needed more time than I originally expected what with going home to arrange everything. Anyhow no hard feelings on either side but now I'm going stir crazy. I don't really need the money, well not as much as I need something to keep me busy... So if anyone is looking for help PM me. Ben Elton, very funny. Read it.

Get yourself a kindle, it reignited my love of reading. I read every night before sleeping, using a computer of phone just messes up your sleep patterns because they're backlite.

Amen. No more six-week waits for books to show up, with the postage costing more than the book. Smartest $100 I ever spent. Not a gadget guy, but don't know how I existed without this one.

Ditto that, losing a parent is horrible. Inevitable, but still horrible.

It is indeed. Loytoy thinks it is very bad for you, even though it cures cancer.

    High-speed rail

    What's on yer mind?
Will we be lucky enough to break the 200mph mark traveling by train between Milan to Venice? From Venice to Florence? From Florence to Rome next month?

The big news in European train travel this year is Italy’s newest high-speed train, the Italo. Not only is the train itself, which can hit 223 mph new, but so is the entire concept –

I'm more intrigued by the concept of trenitalia. Are they reproducing on their own now?

Already booked my flight to LoS so hoping for some good news from the cancer specialists this afternoon. 3 months back with the family will soften the blues after 6 months away.

Good luck with the bouquet NR. I suppose marriage preparations can appear to be more stressful than divorce at times. I tried it but once so no connoisseur !

Good question. Got me looking forward to future runs at 250mph. That’s fast!

Trenitalia ordered 50 high speed trainsets in 2010. New trains will be ETR1000 series. They will be 200 metres (660 ft) long, non-articulated trains, with distributed traction, and capable of up to 400 km/h (250 mph) operation, although current service plans are limited to 360 km/h (220 mph). Mauro Moretti, chief executive of FS group, said FS was considering long-distance international services to France, Germany, or even Spain and the UK. The trains are due to enter service from 2013.

Trenitalia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    The ETR1000 series:

ITALY: The first of 50 ETR1000 high speed trains was unveiled by FS Holding Chief Executive Mauro Moretti at AnsaldoBreda's factory in Pistoia on March 26.
FS hailed the ETR1000 as 'the fastest series-built train in Europe', noting that it had been designed for speeds of up to 400 km/h.

    Snip

FS said that the first ETR1000 sets would enter commercial service in 2014 after completing a test programme and obtaining certification from the Italian safety authority, although operation at 360 km/h may not be authorised by then. Rival operator NTV also envisages operating its AGV Italo trainsets at 360 km/h on Italy's AV network.

    Snip (manufactured)

Ordered from AnsaldoBreda and Bombardier under a contract worth 'more than €1•5bn', the ETR1000 fleet has bogies featuring active suspension. Power equipment is distributed along the train and the 16 traction motors offer a starting acceleration of 0•7 m/s2. FS said that the train would be 'able to run on all European high speed networks'.
