    Divorce whats the deal ?

My misses works with a Fillipino who married her English mug in the Fillipines 5 years ago , now she has decided she wants out .

Strangely enough the first thing she mentioned to my misses was " How much money will I get from him " ? the second question was will I be able to stay here ( she has indefinate leave to remain ) and get social housing .

Now I dont know the guy too well , but I think he has a bob or two tucked away from previous property and a business he used to run , he is a hardworking guy working weekends etc to bring extra money in .

I,m wondering what is anyone,s experience of this ? from what little I know I have heard judges wising up to this kinda thing and telling the gold diggers " you take very little out as you brought nothing in "

I have also heard from some others it,s ni-on impossible to divorce from a Filly ,, thats only hearsay I might add I have nothing to back it up .

So whats the poor guy,s chances ?
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

There is no divorce in the Philippines - period. Annulments are possible, but rare and very expensive. Most Filipinos get Nike divorces - "feets don't fail me now!" Given that she resides in the UK (I presume), it's hard to tell since we don't know if the marriage is registered in the UK or if she is a citizen there - both of which change the equation significantly.

There's loads of information on the net.

That's not my understanding... And I'm married to one. Catholic or not, annulment is the only way out of a Filipino marriage. I don't doubt there are areas with some amount of autonomy where divorce is permitted by the national government in lieu of local government officials taking responsibility for the culture for which they are responsible.

A divorce obtained by a Filipino in another country, like the USA or Japan for example, is not recognized here in the Philippines. In several decisions, our Supreme Court has ruled that a Filipino who obtains a divorce abroad and gets married here again, is liable for bigamy.

It's the government, as well as the church. I got married here in a civil ceremony, and the first thing the presiding official said to me was "You realize that there is no divorce in the Philippines". I might add that the link above stating that "There are loads of divorced Pinays in Japan" is bullshit. If asked, not one of them could produce a Filipino divorce decree, as there is no such paperwork in this country. They may call themselves 'divorced', as they left their partner behind in the Philippines, but, under Filipino law, they are still married in this country - forever.

As Davis points out, there's no divorce in the Flips. Maybe if your mate did some digging hopefully he may find she's already married and can annul the marriage.

I watched this quite a while back, the penalty for adultery there is severe.

British man David Scott meets Cynthia, a Filipino woman, on the internet and a whirlwind romance begins. After a holiday together in the Philippines, she becomes pregnant. But their joy turns to despair when Cynthia's estranged husband uses the Philippines' adultery laws to have them thrown in jail. The couple faces up to 14 years in prison; worse still, under Filipino law, their baby legally belongs to her ex-husband.

Unfortunately It's been removed from You Tube, but here's a torrent

    ^^

That story was on " Banged up abroad ". A genuine story and not some loser Monger who bought her out of a bar.

Very scary to watch, anyway at the end of it they escaped back to Poms ville and live happily ever after.

A nice looking girl and he seemed like a real decent fella.

Good luck to them. Not sure if they got the baby out or not.

Why is everyone burbling on that there isn't any 'divorce in the Philippines'

    when .....

Presumably, the Filipina isn't worried that she would be required to leave her own country, the Philippines.

QED - she isn't in the Philippines

    = she' s somewhere else.

i.e a place that does permit divorce, and gives out social housing to spongers.

If its the UK, then yes she can get rid of him. A Filipina friend of mine got shot of her useless northern husband in the UK

If she's in the UK, if she's been granted her ILR, then she can divorce him and stay.

(Happened to someone I know a few years back - he got dumped a few weeks after her ILR came through).

Another problem in the UK is that hitmen are so more more expensive, so he'll have to shell out a fair wedge to give her what she deserves.

If they live in the UK then she can divorce him and stay in the UK. I think what money she gets would depend on if they have children together.

No seriously its all a bit of a sad old story ,, what the hell,s happened I really dont know ,, they have been round here a couple of times for BBQ,s , mind never returned the offer , really dont know seemed very happy together .

Trouble is she is about ( early 50,s ) has 3 kids in PP ,, but she thinks in her head she is about 19 living in the land of milk and honey and all and sundry here are after her .

Jan says she has told her she wants some rich man take care of her ,, I told her if it was some rich man in the market he would probably be off for a much younger better looking cutie with no baggage and a clean service history sheet.

The bloody womans in la la land ,, might prove me wrong but I doubt it

I met a Thai woman a year ago who lives on the Wirral with her daughter.. She's on benefits doing bugger all, in a council flat with a nice brand new car.

Her husband works abroad in Saudi Arabia and she's desperately trying to get him to buy her a house before they divorce.. asking me for advice on how to ask him

    Couldn't make it up.

oh yeah she was in the process of shipping her Son from Thailand over here as well and apply for her British passport
