    Scheming, bastard ex-wives

    Yesterday was pay day....

I needed to top up my Thai bank account that's linked to my Paypal account, so I could pay some small bills. The only way to do this from Laos is to send the cash by Western Union to one of my ex's in Thailand, who then deposits the money into my Thai bank account.

So I sent 6,000 baht by WU (high commission!) to my mad ex and gave her specific instructions to put that money into my Thai bank account.

The thieving bastard took the 6,000 baht and used it to pay the rent on her house

As for the other miserable kunt of an ex, she guessed that it was payday, so forwarded me a bill from HER accountant for looking after the hotel accounts that I own 50% of.

I am going to change my email address, name and gender and become totally anonymous and incognito

You're not kidding BB - Just think what fun I could have had in Luang Prabang for 6,000 baht ==> 6 overnighters.

Fcuk and double fcuk - and I still have to pay the sodding Paypal bills

^ But you'll still do it again and again and then moan about it.

I honestly believe you need those ex wives in your life as much as they need your cash. I don't think things have changed very much since you were still with them.

You've kinda lost the plot, Abby..[literally and figuratively]

The ex-wives only exist to act as further characters - conduits for OPs, storylines, and all that.

Now the big issue is: how's the amateur hamming coming along (for those of you who don't know/remember, Simon43 likes to drive to lonely spots in his underwear and attract the attention of passing men...).

Listen, if there was a way to pay without involving them, then I would use that option. Any money sent to either of them is always liable to be diverted....

I asked about international funds transfers here in LP, but the local banks don't do it. The only failsafe way is to fly back to BKK and do the transfer from there ==> about an extra $400 in plane tickets.

But it would still work out cheaper than dealing with these 2 leeches

Why didn't you just do a wire transfer from a bank in Laos? Gotta be cheaper than WU.

Slowly, but at least the government guy is on the case.

I asked my landlord if it was OK to do my ham radio and he said it's fine, but he is very sensitive to radio waves (wtf???)

I told him that my equipment was extremely low power and he wouldn't feel a thing.

^ has the Thai chap recovered from that midnight shock you gave him in Phuket???

I'd help you, Simon, but you haven't even offered to build me a hotel yet!

Good luck with it, I can see how it's problematic.

Simon is always on the look out for the next ex-Mrs. Simon43.

Nice life if one can afford it....familial with exs and whatnot.

What works better is: cutting the cord and complete disattachment.

I already asked. They will do it, but only if I open a bank account with them first. (I usually just stuff my Lao kip down my y-fronts ==> massive bulge)

So opening a bank account might be the safest option, (especially for future transfers).

If you have a credit card linked to your paypal and a bank account linked to the credit card then it all pays itself automatically. Do you still have any financial infrastructure left over from your UK days?

Looper, it's a debit card, not a CC, so that suggestion won't work. I think opening a local bank account is the best solution.

Anyway, karma exists!!!! I just got a phone call from mad ex. Apparently the hotel is full of guests and there's a problem with the electrics ==> some rooms have leccy and some do not ==> major hassle.

Since I wired the hotel myself, I have a good idea of what the problem is, (only one of the electricity phases is affected, which is likely due to a loose supply cable in the switch box that supplies a couple of rooms).

So she's now got irate customers

I think I'll go to bed now and switch off my phone

Why don't you just set up net banking with Kasikorn or SCB or whatever and put some money in to pay bills and tell paypal to piss off?

You seem to get ripped off at every step you take and yet keep coming back for more.

Simon....in the long of it, wouldn't it be much simpler to tell them to fcuk off?

Get on with your life....without the baggage.

Well 50/50 the lure of a free beer but better than no chance at all.

Luckily, Simon actually has ultimate control over all the finances (as he's told us many times).

Unfortunately, he's too thick to use an ATM machine or internet banking...

    Bad story, Simon.

You should have had a trusted mate to that, but then again, being expats mates come and go.

Love your stories about your EX wives Simon and reinforces my total belief that's there is no solid reason to actually get married.

    The idea is actually extinct.

    Cheers mate.
