I stumbled upon an amazing weather forecast and history webpage that updates every couple of minutes. Great features, like this very detailed history of 2012.

Weather History for Weather Station ICHONBUR5 | Weather Underground

Seems there is a weather station in Jomtien where the Thappraya Road turns left to Jomtien Beach that's independent from the Thai weather station near Royal Cliff in South Pattaya, and that it opened on the 14.01.2012. There are no earlier records. From this date until the end of the year it counted 865.9 mm of rain. From the start of this year until now 188 mm. The bloody place is not in the tropics, it's a frigging desert. Anyway, when you click on 'maps and radar' on the top and then 'Asia', this map indicating where cloud cover and rains are is updated every couple of minutes also. There are probably more features I haven't found yet. Here is the Pattaya forecast,

It's not bad but the 30 years averages are now 23 years old, and it hasn't got satellite pictures. I always check Trad on this site longingly, they had 3 days of roughly as much rain like Pattaya had in the whole year this week alone. Why did I not move there?

Sorry Taxexile but the latest forecast on that link is dated 3 Jul,
The fact it says rain today and it is raining is accurate, but may be a coincidence.
I have yet to find any reliable forecast even at airports.
It's still pissing down here whatever the forecast says.
We often find it pissing down at her sisters and bone dry here, about 1km away.

the home page of the tmd site always opens at todays latest forecast for me, and the local forecasts up to date and accurate. the tv news weather forecasts which are based on tmd information have always seemed good.

having said that, the weather in thailand is extremely predictable, obviously you cant always predict which locality will get a shower or thunderstorm, it can be raining on one side of the street here and bone dry on the other, and unlike europe, the rain here can be incredibly localised, and the amounts of precipitation can never be forecast accurately, but temperatures and weather patterns in this part of the world are not too difficult to forecast correctly.

they used to have real time radar loops for many localities with which you could see the rainstorms as they approached, but for some reason they seem to have cut back on the amount of radar loop locations.

i dont know where accuweather and weather underground get their data from, but they are not as accurate for thai weather as they are for say uk or usa weather.

Good site, but was unable to dig out the historical rainfall on Chiang Rai local. If you're looking for remote or small banns forget it.

I used that on Saturday to see if I could take the bike to cricket or not. It said it would be dry up until about 30 mins before I left, and then they made a major change to 40% rain. Useless feckers.

There is another station in Pattaya, gone online in December last year, in one of the Chokchai villages near the Bypass Road in East Pattaya. This one recorded 472.4 mm of rain this year so far, more than twice as much than the one on Jomtien Beach. Including the big downpour in the middle of the dry season in January. It rained hard for two hours and the water level in my pool rose by more than 100 mm, but there were no reports of floodings in Pattaya, and the TMD station reported less than 10 mm this night. It's simple in Pattaya, actually. If you like sun you have to stay West of Sukhumvit, if clouds and rain are your thing, it's the dark side.

I find WU to be pretty good - though I tried the android app , then fcuked it off
just have browser shortcuts for the regular cities

they also have wondermap - just only turn on satellite and leave the rest off
and select current conditions / now

who is this "us" you think you are speaking for

weather forcasting is a mathematical endevour which uses some of the most powerful computers on the planet for modelling data.

America took delivery of a system last month which is now more powerful than Europe's ( which held the title before )

though they are noticing differences which is caused by the rounding of numbers ( decimal points )
