CTH and the premier league package.

A fair bit of conjecture posted on here over the last couple of months regarding this topic.

Yesterday i had the CTH package installed - what follows is a factual breakdown of what the package actually is, as opposed to their glossy adverts and bullshit website.

An early morning visit to their office and an in depth discussion with a young lady resulted in :-

    i) An afternoon installation time of 2 o' clock was agreed.
ii) The sum of 5,058 bht was taken and a reciept given.

The cash involves 1,800 returnable charge provided you keep their package for at least 10 months - what the rest of the payment was for i'm not altogether sure.

The crew turned up promptly at 3:20, and the installation took about an hour and a half.
The first surprise was that it's not cable as i was expecting, it's a blue satellite dish and a reciever/decoder box.

There are 130 channels, + 6 dedicated Premier league channels that currently show just the logo. The channels are a similar mix to those on offer from True, but i couldn't really give a flying fuck about them - it's the footy i want.

There is still a monthly fee to be paid of 999 bht.

The volume on all the channels is different, but only a minor annoyance.
There's loads of cartoons which would be decent for kids i suppose.
    Lots of dubbed films.

    Bring on 17th August.

If it was reliable, so would i.
My internet speed is a bit cack, and watching a series of stills on the internet is not quite the same as HD on the tele.

My Astro signal has been ominously blocked for the last few days. Anyone else got this problem?

Does anyone know if CTH will be replaying the matches or will it just be the live matches then almost 7 days of looking at the EPL logo? If it's only live games then I'll probably give it a miss.

They'll want value for money so lots of repeats and lots of adverts. PLTV also provide a lot of "filler" programs.

I wonder if Euro Custard Cake are changing their allegiance!

I had a talk with their local agent at the end of last week and decided against installing it.
They are promoting it hard with vans going around town blaring the message and also offering a promotion if installed before the end of the month - with reductions of the installation and monthly fees.
I am sure I was quoted 899 baht/month rather than 999 for the epl package but i may well have misunderstood - much cheaper than True but I have almost no interest in the 100+ other assorted channels so will stick to torrents and watch the football on Sunday after lunch

If its like the old true chipped boxes, they had no card either but you needed an internet connection and the thing was always freezing up

    I would say not.
I now have both true and cth dishes, and they face about 100 degrees away from each other and use different boxes to decode.

I've got a feeling that the matches come with the Premier League's own commentary, rather than say Sky's or anybody elses. Haven't found any of the channels that you mention, though in terms of 'news', what a difference having Sky News (particularly in HD) rather than BBC World.

As 'withnallstoke' says, 6 HD channels for the matches, which is much better than the maximum of 2 channels that True had. I think with the exception of the season's final day, the most matches played simultaneously is 5 (3 pm local UK on Saturday).

All depends on European footy and the Monday match.

    Otherwise it's Sat:
    Early game, 6 x 3pm, late game.
    Sunday: Two games

It happens more than you think.

But most providers have a contingency, like they'll drop one of the timeshift Nat Geo's or something that few people watch.

You're forgetting the Monday night match. All designed to spin as much TV programming as possible of course. They sometimes slide the Monday night match into the weekend if there's a clash with cup matches midweek.
