Exclamation There's a disturbance in the force : Our maid lost 1 million

Harmony in your home is important. Unfortunately, not present in my household at the moment. One of our maids allegedly lost 1 million Rp from out of her purse while she was working at our house the other day.

She thinks the nanny did it.

WTF was she keeping that sort of money (over half a month's salary for her) in the house in the first place. Apparently her sister wanted to give it to her brother who needed it for a motor bike loan installment but he started work too early and she was afraid it might get lost or stolen, so gave it to my maid to look after .

The nanny's upset at being accused.

She wasn't the only one in the house and they even routinely leave the garage door open.

    What to do?

That's probably a function of the size of your arse rather than the size of indo money, which is patently ridiculous anyway. No argument there.

The government has been talking about dropping three noughts from the currency, but there's fears it will cause inflation. I cannot think of a single thing that costs less than 1,000 rups, even a lighter or candy or an icecream will cost a couple of thousand.

Sympathize with her loss, try and steer her away from accusing the Nanny then let them sort it out themselves...

It is domestic... Let your missus do the talking.

Give her a tip on next months pay maybe as a one-off?

That's pretty much what we're doing now, but she's refusing to talk to her at all, speaks to her via the other maid or the driver. - hope it doesn't last long.

Next month is a bugger already because we have to pay double salaries. (The Ramadan 13th month).

We offered to lend her the money (partially to see her reaction in case it was/is a scam) but her husband had already borrowed it from his employer.

We're thinking we might pay half of it to her as 'insurance'.

Actually, i've just used the Bangkok Banks currency convertor.

If you change 1,000,000 Rupiah, they will give you 2,420 baht.
If you change 2,420 baht, they will give you 685,552 rupiah.

Not really its only ten 100,000Rp notes. No different from having $100 in tens in ones wallet. Just because the numbers are large doesn't mean the currency is unmanageable. At worst it would be twenty 50,000Rp notes or twenty $5 in US money.

Obviously it is fashionable to knock something you know nothing about?

Oh and while on the subject of comparing rupiah to dollar. Indonesia is working towards universal health care, something some countries with small denomination bills struggle to accept.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Make them wrestle in baby oil to find out the truth. The winner gets to wear the strap-on.

An alternative could be to sack the lot of them and save any future hassles... also save some money.

Do you live in a mansion?

We had a domestic help once after the baby came - a farm fresh relative from the village - paid her 3000 Baht per month and she ended up getting the boot when she started getting into the local Somchais....

We didn't really need her... My missus can 'cook, fvck and do the washing up' as the Macc Lads once said... And she can drive too and take care of the sprog.

Sack the lot of them... These are meant to be times of austerity so they will understand.

I'm with Rawlins on this - tell them that if they cannot sort out their differences you will have to let them both go to maintain peace and quite in your household.
