Schoolchildren dressing up as Nazis and a billboard advert showing Hitler were just the start.

Thailand's obsession with so-called 'Nazis chic' just won't go away - and now a fried chicken takeaway called Hitler - complete with a logo showing the Nazi leader in a bow tie - has opened its doors.

The bizarre restaurant opened last month in Thailand and images of it are doing the rounds on Twitter as shocked customers take photos of the offensive eatery.

Bizarre: Thailand's obsession with so-called 'Nazis chic' just won't go away - and now a fried chicken takeaway called Hitler - complete with a logo showing the Nazi leader in a bow tie - has opened its doors

Among the grub on sale includes fried chicken and chips, burgers and kebabs.

Alan Robertson, 43, who lives in Bangkok, said: 'The place opened last month and nobody quite knows what to make of it.

'I went in for a bite last week and got some fried chicken, which was pretty good, and asked the guy behind the counter why it was called Hitler.

'He just shrugged his shoulders and said the owners had thought it was good image.'
Cartoon pandas, Teletubbies and Ronald McDonald have all been spotted on show around the capital Bangkok.

The craze has seen more and more teenagers strutting around in T-shirts bearing cartoonish images of the Nazi dictator.

'Nazi chic': A shocking new trend has seen Bangkok flooded with cartoonish images of Hitler - including a popular design in which the dictator is merged with red-haired McDonalds mascot Ronald McDonald

Incongruous: Cartoon pandas and Teletubbies are among the characters merged with Hitler in the bizarre fashion trend. The designs feature a characteristic vicious expression and variety of Nazi symbols.

Popularised: Thai Shopkeepers admit that foreign tourists often complain about their Hitler kitsch merchandise - but say the t-shirts are extremely popular with young people
In a particularly popular design, Hitler is transformed into a cartoon Ronald McDonald, the fast-food chain's clown mascot, sporting a bouffant cherry-red hairdo and a stern look.
On another T-shirt the Führer is shown in a lovely panda costume with a Nazi armband.
In September 2011 in the northern city of Chiang Mai, a group of high school students showed up for sport day in homemade Nazi uniforms, complete with swastika armbands and toy guns.
Leading them was a teenage girl dressed in a faux SS uniform with a fake Hitler mustache.
Locals cheered the students merrily from sidewalks as foreign tourists reportedly looked on aghast.
In 2009, a waxworks museum in the seaside resort town of Pattaya advertised itself with a giant billboard featuring the Führer with the legend in Thai: 'Hitler is not dead!'
In 2007, hundreds of students at a Bangkok school staged a similar Nazi-themed costume parade.
Following international outcries, teachers at both schools apologised, saying they had no idea the students had planned to dress up as Nazis.

They may have the one shop in BKK but they can forget about having a chain.
What happened to Calico Jacks, Popeyes, Long John Silvers, Chicken Treat, I-Joy etc.?
Why are A&W's seemingly confined to petrol station locations and Burger Kings mostly only at airports?

Only if the article is 3 or 4 years old. That pic's been doing the rounds since the Nazi School Sport's Day around 2008-ish.

Too many Chinese in Business in Thailand.
They start a franchise, learn how to do it, drop the franchise and rename their own with all the same logos etc. Well ALMOST the same.

This place gets sillier by the day.

I await the story of chickens organizing "the Great Escape" from one of Saha Farms POW camps. The Aardman Animations "Chicken Run" is now closer to reality than we could ever imagine.

Nice that the Mail helpfully includes a photo of Hitler in the article.

Were they worried that their senile readership might have forgotten what he looked like?

I liked to visit the paintings shops on Walking Street in Pattaya. They all had Hitler paintings. When a Thai accompanied me, I asked her if she knew him. Not one did.

Hitler wore that mustache because he admired Chaplin.

when thai sensibilities are infringed abroad, thais tend to protest.
(e.g. a couple of days ago, a buddha was laid on its side as some kind of art installation in munich, a few dozen students protested outside the german embassy in bangkok and i believe the germans apologised for causing offence)

the mere mention of axxxf hxxxxr, even 70 years after his death, causes great offence to many westerners, so when a hxxxxr themed fried chicken restaurant is opened by some thai retard, or schoolkids are advised by their teachers to theme their parade on axxxf hxxxxr thereby trivialising nazi principles and glorifying fascism, a flood of complaints from westerners is to be expected, however apologies from thais at having caused offence are unlikely to follow, as thais are people who are easily capable of being offended themselves, but are incapable of causing offense to others or seeing how they might have offended others by their insensitive behaviour.

A similar photo (with a different restaurant name) was brought to my attention in my position as an employee of a regional Thai university in 2007. The restaurant was sited directly opposite the university's main gate.

The person who sent me the photo was a lady completing her PhD at the university and was in the process of organising an international conference that would bring a number of international visitors to the campus. She was worried that the restaurant and reported posters around campus containing the photo may offend some of the visitors.

I informed my direct boss (who thought the character in the photo was Stalin) that the contents of the photo could well be distressing to certain people from outside Thailand. My boss immediately contacted the President of the university who in turn had discussions about the matter with the mayor of the district.

As a result of the mayor's intervention, the owner of the restaurant changed the name of the establishment as it inferred direct links to the university (despite there being no such links) but did not change the picture.

The university was contacted by a female representative of the Israeli embassy in Bangkok who in no uncertain terms expressed her disgust with the university. It was explained to her that the university had nothing to do with the restaurant and that action had been taken by the local council.

I heard nothing further about the matter.
