On FB I keep up with friends in Canada and Japan in a low-key yet mainly interesting way.

Think it's only shit if your friends are. Maybe some of you need a social bumgun to clear away the will-nots.

FB is for giggly teenage girls who have to keep up with each others activities. There are no effective filters to keep a determined hacker from gleaning info on you and then possible negative effects. The comparison with an anonymous internet forum like TD is bogus.

FB has it's uses, not least is free advertising to sell stuff online. I enjoy it to keep in touch with friends overseas. I know an increasing number of people that are seemingly obsessed with it though.

agree a lot is somewhat superfluous inane banter....
good way to connect with friends and family though...easy to install security filters and use messaging for more private stuff.

I would say it's good for families split up around the world.
As for friends, prefer to meet up at the local for pub like banter, rather than hit the "like" button.

I googled up TWGF's face book and saw she has a photo of us hugging on the front cover (i.e. no need to log in).

No harm done I guess until google face recognition photo search becomes a reality.
