BT scammers BEWARE !!

Sorry didnt know where to post this so put it here for hopefully those it will affect will see it.

I have just recieved a VERY convincing email from some arsehole pretending to be BT,, BEWARE it looks very convincing , will catch some for sure .

Basically tells you as your bank details have been recently altered you will have to re-set them + enter a new pin code etc for when they phone you up to go through your new details .

This aint like your usual spam crap it all looks very convincing with all theyre logo,s addresses and even uses a customer service name I recognise

Just a heads up ,, I expect most are dilligent like me , but might ring a bell before its too late

If I am not expecting an email from a business then I just delete them as spam. I do not even open them.

They're bastards. I've been deleting DHL emails all week then the phoned me up and asked me if I wanted my package. Seems Amazon decided to use them and I didn't pick up on it.

2 factor authentication is just about essential for any financial service that you will do online - find a bank that supports this

any others just keep minimal balance , so if they get compromised you do not lose much

One way to ensure that these emails come from the said source is to check the http. It should show https:// The S stands for secure. All banks and above board businesses have this.

Glad to hear nothing happened, but as someone else menioned, you should report this to BT and forward them a copy of the message.

Yes mate I have notified them , they are aware , trouble is these people seem to scam from untouchable parts of the world.

The bastards have even created a fake non secure BT web page in another link on this fake email .

This is the sad part of things like this. IMO, if enough people report it to BT, then BT can send out warnings via sms, TV, radio etc. They do that here vis sms, warning people about fake contests from the phone companies.

No, I'm not a banker, but I rememberhearing this eons ago, when internet banking first became popular. I was really surprised that I didn't hear it more often.

Banks are forever telling customers that they NEVER send E-mails asking for private information .
Never click on a link that a "Bank" send you , its 100 % a scam .

^ Scammers are lowlife who don't care who they hurt, and as you said, it's elderly or less computer savvy people who get taken in. Probably those who can least afford to lose the money in the first place. Despite all my warnings, my mum would be taken in by this any day of the week

Thing is NR it was worded in such a way that if you didnt comply at lot of old folk would comply not to get cut off .

I wasn't arguing, I was agreeing. My mum is 62 and she'd have fallen for it, never mind my warnings over the years

Do you know the BT email customer service address I used to contact them with has now been made a " there,s no one here to answer your email " no reply box .

I give up , if you call you get to listen to some poxy robot for 10 mins
