Drug Testing : In your honest opinion how young is acceptable?

As I have previously posted I have been working on a new drug testing device which is in the final stages of development.

It has been a bit of a learning curve with regard to how people attempt to mask the device to prevent positive testing as well as methods of adulteration to circumvent the proper function of the device.

Anyway, all these problems now have design solutions but the final request by the distributors is to design a device that can be closed easily by a 12 year old child but remain leak and tamper proof.

It has come to light there are plans to commence on-the-spot random drug testing of school children when they arrive at school and I immediately thought this practice is ethically not correct.

After I thought about this matter I agreed to change the design and now believe this form of testing is actually a good idea and my opinion is not commercially driven.

Drugs are a scourge on our society and as drugs such as Ecstasy and Amphetamines are so easily available these days younger and younger kids are being targeted and it has turned into a huge market.

I have absolutely no problems with agreeing to my children being tested as long as it is done in a safe and proper government audited environment.

My questions to my fellow Teakdoor members are as follows:

    1. At what age should these tests commence?

    2. Would you allow your children to be tested?

Any other positive or negative comments are appreciated.

LT, are you talking about in Thailand or the UK(?)...Thailand clearly doesn't give a damn about the rights of minors.

If there were such plans in Thailand, I'd surely like to know.

    ^ Minors have no rights.
The rights are vested in their guardian.

Having said that, I think that all random testing is,wrong.
Slippery slope and all that, where does it stop?
It is the antithesis of the principle innocent until proven guilty.

How soon until the are scanners controlling access to buildings, or whole neighborhoods? It will happen as the tech increasingly allows the process to be quicker...

I think a lot of parents are in denial about their children preferring to think that their little babies are angels. How the shit has hit the fan in a lot of cases I am aware of.

Surprisingly I am getting feedback from western distributors including government departments confirming that such tests are under consideration. And no, as far as I know no decision has been made here in Thailand but other S.E Asian countries has sent out feelers.

Yes, there are ethical and personal rights considerations but you show me one government department anywhere where they consider people's private rights?

Clearly the war against drugs is being lost big style even though huge amounts of taxpayers money is being wasted on this war.

Something has to be done and to nip drug abuse in the bud seems to me to be the right way to go...................Or legalize the shit and be done with it.

I wonder if anyone has ever made the argument that urine is property and thus not open to illegal seizure..

I have read numerous accident reports about stoned people working on machinery not only killing themselves but others. In fact there was an incident in America whereby a stoned worker turned over a crane and killed a number of innocent people.

Most oil rig workers, and especially the labourers are being tested these days when they arrive at the job site in fact we have conducted tests at our factory in Bangkok with positive drug consumption results.

I doubt no one on this planet has not been touched or negatively affected by this drug problem and once again I fully agree with such tests.

    Nothing to hide.........Nothing to fear.

From the start of the test until the results are known no other person can touch the testing device.

Once again this is an on-the-spot procedure, subject to secondary laboratory confirmation and if you wish to retain the test unit you may do so or dispose of it in the provided bins.

I have nothing against testing being a condition of employment.
    That's a choice you make.
I would have no problem with an interlock or detector of some sort being part of a vehicles ignition.
I don't think testing of children in a school is wrong if that testing is a known condition of enrollment.
In itself, none of those scenarios are "random".

What I object to is being, pulled out of,a cab or off the, street and being forced,to piss in a cup.

OK mate. At what age should this test start bearing in mind data shows that kids as young as 8 and 9 are now crack heads in some countries?

I don't think it matters to be honest.

Actually and when the tests are confirmed either way there are only 2 people on this earth who immediately know the results and that is the tester and the tested.

Properly trained government officials should only be present and appropriate action will take place according to age of those tested and severity of the results.

For children proper counselling and support may help these kids beat what usually ends up a death sentence.

I don't think random testing should occur with kids, test them if there is reasonable suspicion. although I doubt I'd need a testing kit to know when a kid is on drugs simply by their behaviour, moods, eyes, needle marks, rolls of tin foil, rizla, crack pipe, bong, Bob Marley's greatest hits

Then, I change my answer to No. Parent must be aware their child is taking drugs regardless of what the "properly trained government officials" decide.

If you want a random number then 10 3/4 years old.

There's a cost to this testing and a benefit.
Sample testing of a range of children will determine when the benefit outweighs the cost.

But the earlier you start the more indoctrinated kids will be to their privacy being eroded, so in that sense, the earlier the better.
Will also help identify and stamp out the scourge of shy bladder syndrome.

How old are kids these days starting to use drugs? What ever age that is, that is the right age. A strong message needs to be sent out to kids about drugs regardless about what all the pot heads clammer and sway about. At school I saw an a-grade perfect student transition to being sectioned by his parents in 3 years through pot that led onto other drugs.

11 yrs old and don't give a fig what the parent think. If the kid is doing drugs, they need to know. What they do about it is there concern but it is better they know.

LoyToy, are these devices that you have developed for single use only? How much are they per unit?

Tricky one. I agree with Norts - parents or guardians should be involved both in consenting to the tests and in finding out the results and dealing with them. In those circumstances, yes I would consent.

Age? As young as 9 or 10, I'm afraid

No comment. But my kids who would be the ones tested know just what I am talking about.

    Isn't it so sad NR.

9 and 10 year old children poisoned by adults making money.

People are now taking their blinkers off about how bad things are and I was told today that new forms of synthetic drugs are being manufactured now to push our kids even further into the abyss.

What a shithole world we live in today and I hope my shit can make a difference...............even though I have been warned I could be topped.

    Fuck em!
