Which is correct? Falang or Farang?
As I see it, the word is pronounced differently in different parts of Thailand.
Which do you say?
Falang
Farang
Either is ok.
I dont understand the question.

As you can see, it is quite clearly faRang ฝรั่ง.
ร = R
Otherwise it would read ฝลั่ง.
No thanks necessary.
law roua, hmmmm thats a difficult one, lower class whores miss the r, hope this helps
Well all I know is that when I was in Kanchanaburi it was pronounced by Thai folks as Falang. I cant help it if the poorer parts of Thailand pronounce it Farang. It just sounds so vulgar.
Perhaps they are poor brown trash.
It's just people are generally lazy when they speak. The rolled 'R' takes more effort the 'L' which often replaces it. It's not different to most of us when we speak English and don't bother to speak clearly, especially among people from a simialr area.
So what you are saying is that the good people of Kanchanaburi Province are more articulate than the rest of Thailand. Fair enough.
It always makes me chuckle when i hear whities say 'falang' and generally pronounce the 'r' sound with a 'l'!
A pretty good indication that they learnt their Thai langauge from whores!
Not good.
Well I certainly didnt learn the Thai that I know from whores Don. I think that you will find that it is said differently in one part of the Los to another in the same way as accents vary from Middlesborough to Bristol or New York to Dallas.
I also think you'll find that unless a Thai is on TV reading the news, they will almost always say 'Falang' rather than 'Farang', regardless of their background and education.
Anyone with a bit of class/decency wouldn't use the word 'Farang' to describe a foreigner anyway. They would use 'khohn dtaang daao' or 'chaao dtaang bprathet'.

Falang.
Every language book I've read states that most Thais change the 'r' to an 'l'. I guess they're all written by whores!
Thais find it too hard to pronounce 'R'. 'Lest Loom' for example.
Thais, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Malaysian........hang on.......I see a pattern here!!!!!!!!Originally Posted by Macha

Fark!
Marmite is totally correct it is an R sound. The L sounds is easier to say than the rolled R. The same goes for what Arai, Careful Rawong, and the such. My wife is Kanchanaburi and says correct is RRRR Farung.
It is actually the less educated who tend to not pronounce the R sound.
Well now this is getting interesting because I learned to say Alai and Alai wah instead of Arai and wtf?
I am confused because I thought that it was simply a dialectual thing/thang.
ร That is an R sound as marmite said.ล That is an L sound as marmite said. All the words we are speaking of have the R sound mate. You were taught the easy way. Believe me I was just as shocked as you to see the words are spelled with an R.
If you go somewhere where Thai is being spoken say at a uni, in a speech listen carefully you will here rolling R's not L's.
If you are saying that the people who taught me were easy then maybe Donleavy was right after all.Originally Posted by aging one

Really they should just stop being such dumbfucks.
Well that is the point Ce. They dont shout farang farang at me, instead they shout falang falang. Go figure eh?
