Doing it the Thai way, Neutering Dogs

Neutering is no ball: (Rf 49-01/32) A distress call was made involving a dog in a housing complex suffering through an acute case of having rubber band fasten around his scrotum. This is a primitive and inhumane method of castrating a dog. The dog’s balls were painfully swollen with infectious pus and barely attached to the body. Tranquilizer had to be used for restrain before first aid could be applied. The animal was then brought back to Thai AGA Animal Rescue Clinic for full treatment and recovery
We were informed of See, a male white-brown stray living around Laksi Train Station, who was neutered by an unknown person by using an elastic band to bind around its testis. When our rescue team arrived, they found that the elastic band had cut into See’s testis by about 2cm. The testis were also swollen and puss was found around the bound wounds. Our rescue team removed the elastic band and gave it antibiotics to decrease the inflammation and pain. Whether it be ease or cost-savings or fun or a decreased recognition of animal welfare, we do not see any reason justifiable enough for See to be done onto in such a way. We hope that See will be the last animal to experience such a cruel action as every living thing is capable of pain, but animals are unable to protest and fight back when they do not want to be hurt.

    2 half bricks work wonders.

Actually I shouldnt joke about this. We've got 3 dogs, 2 males and a bitch and the bitch has just come into season for the first time. The wife flat out refuses to get any of them seen to, so now we have all out canine warfare for the next few weeks.

This is the same method used at home for castrating lambs. You leave the rubber band on for a while then rip the balls off.

Ain't that a bunch of shit, I have never seen it but heard of rubber bands around lambs and kid goats sacks and it is supposed to work fine, but that is on like day olds, not after they are any age at all, also some ranchers use mascalators [sp] looks like a pair of bolt cutters and when applied above the nuts to the top of the sack and clamped down they cut the cords and do no damage to the hide, I have seen them work on a horse hair between 2 cigarette rolling papers, and they cut the hair and do not damage the papers.
We never did none of that on the ranches I have lived on or worked on, the marking of lambs or calves is done the old way I guess you could say, hold them and cut em off with a sharp knife and throw em in a bucket and have em for supper, and the animal is no worse for wear, coarse I damn sure don't want it done to me.
Dogs I take to the vet and have it done, altho I have never had a male neutered, and have never had a bunch of pups that I didn't plan on having and had a use for.
I have had 3 female dogs here in the Moo ban spayed at my own cost, altho I ain't sure who they belong to, seemed to just be soi dogs, but 1 bunch of pups was enough.

The most humane way to take a young male sheeps balls off is to bite them off.
Errol Flynn did it for a while- it is the lowest on the totem pole, after which you become a dagger. Look it up.
You need to learn the ropes before you become a shearer or a fleecer.

I have neuterised three Bulls (Scoottish Highland) by the elastic band technique and done right it works well. They sell the equipment for it in Oz, and I would assume elsewhere.

OK, but the scrotum is cut first and then the nuts are bit off, after a few dozen lambs they say that their fingers get sore and it is easier to bite em off, I don't know for sure as I was a kid when I was around livestock but thats what I remember.

And Yes they do sell the rubber band kits in the states, I have seen em used, you buy the bands and the expander tool at the farm store in the vet supply's section.
But I have only seen em used on very young lambs/goats or bull calves.

OK, but with the bands you would not have much to eat for supper tho,
When we was kids we would get the sack and nuts when they were cut from calves, put the thing in the fire where the branding irons were heated, let them burn black all round and cook the nuts, then fish them out of the fire with a piece of kindling wood, Break the burnt sack off, sprinkle on some salt and have a snack right there.

Yea, we called em Mountain Oysters.

Only guy I ever heard of that done anything like that was Jeremiah Johnson AKA "Liver eatin Johnson" seems he was a mountain man and had a flathead squaw who he did love, she was preg. and he went off trapping, came home in the spring and her skeleton with the baby's inside her was laying in the yard, she had been killed by Crow indians, so every crow he could catch he was posed to have cut em under the ribs, reached in and tore the liver out and ate it. tough sumbitch.
