''I'm getting married'' - And you think Oh God......

Everyone knows at least one. I was disappointed when a really good guy I worked with in Bangkok announced one day that he was getting married we all congratulated him and took him out to celebrate. At about 1am he says his GF is coming to meet him. We all thought ''Great! she must be nice'' as this is a really nice bloke. Then some tattooed girl in a short skirt rolls up with a scowl. ''She's coming for you, Jay, you better tell her to piss off because your bird's coming soon!'' I said drunkenly.

''That is my girlfriend!'' He says gleefully. Oh God, I thought. I looked at Jonny, another teacher who works with us. We are both thinking the same thing, I can tell by our psychic conversation..

She comes up and grabs his balls whilst he's sat on the barstool. ''Hallo my dalling'' She says and looks at us ''Who fennd?'' she asks. Jay introduces us. Meanwhile, I'm thinking about making tracks. I'm sad. Jay is a cool, but sometimes simple guy. My cynical self smells a few rats. Have I fallen into a sewer? Oh well.

At football a week later he says he's getting into the gem industry and will be going to Chantaburi. He has a business idea. Jay had inherited about 150k from the death of his father the year before. To me, It looks ominous but I'm all smiles with him.

At what stage does the subject of supporting a stupid business venture come about during a marriage between a farang guy and a Thai female? Straight after sex when the mans most vulnerable? After the one occasion she's tactically paid a restaurant check? (With cash he gave her most probably)

What about as the guy is about to click 'transfer' online, or go to the bank. Whilst on the way to the bank does it not go through his mind that the 'business' may not be profitable? Is everything his GF says the word of Gospel?

The dowry itself raises a few alarm bells if you're a sensible man with your head screwed on. I don't know where this girl came from, but she had him by the balls.

Jonny calls me 6 months later. ''Jay's heading back to Leicester, to stay at his mums, he fucked that girl off''

I later found out a few details. Poor man. Didn't squander as much as that Aussie but he was quite gullible.

I've found vulnerability is straight before sex.

I could point to a 62 y/o American who gave up his life savings so that his wife could open a spa.

She now has a new American boyfriend nearer her age and he sits alone at home waiting to be thrown back to the US with little more than his underpants and a pair of shoes.

There really is one born every minute.
I see fish. They are everywhere. They don't know they are fish.

If he doesn't go very far, he should sell the shoes.

marriage is nothing than a "believe-system"... as the believe, that gold is worth something...
though, with the marriage you are really fucked up - and you have signed the contract yourself...

what rights does it give you ?
    whats the advantage ?

As long as you both believe in the marriage then the advantages are great as will the union be.

Surely I'm not the only one in a happy marriage on this fucked up forum??

No, 10 or 11 years married, don't remember, 2 kids and my few friend out here in the boonies, some longer than me. One guy 25 years up. Think the divorce rate would reflect the west.
    G/F rate may not. Jim

I actually knew a guy (way back) who was going to marry a Thai girl, just as soon as her current boyfriend left Thailand.

He had to be the most considerate guy I have ever met, in order to let his "fiance" continue to sleep with her current boyfriend until he left for the USA.

I don't know if he ever got married or not, but it certainly proves, "It takes all kinds".

no one said it would, but if you feel confident enough to make that commitment, then maybe the relationship will have better foundations...maybe

the main advantage of marriage is, of course, the legal and financial niceties, esp if you have kids

tax, visas, grants whatever, it is all easier if married and financially better (although now in the UK people can claim many of the same benefits without getting married)
    I have reported your post

I wish I could express myself like he does in English. Seems to be a warning not to get involved with Thais emotionally. Pay them for sex cheaply, exploit them, traffic them for your own profit, but don't treat them as equals, or partners. That's not what he said, but my opinion.

I tell you what, we should all have a whip round, and a get you a sex change ... with all that experience you should be able to bag a few dopey farangs' life savings and retire early with enough to have it sewn back on.
