    Your Day In Pics

Spring has arrived here in Victoria, B.C.!

Let's start at Mile Zero of the Trans-Canada highway, Pacific side (no. 3 on map):

Now it's down to Clover Point (nos. 4-5 on map):

to see the wind-sailers on this bright, clear, windy day.

That's the US over the Straight of Juan de Fuca, named after one of the original explorers of these waters (lots of Spanish placenames around here):

Nearby is the "world's largest totem pole:"

Now its through Beacon Hill Park:

    on a park bench:

to see the heronry, which is right next to downtown:

    nearby rubbish bin:

    nice mustang convertible:

Now let's walk through Fairfield, where I live:

    A fluffy cat:

    enormous sequoia on Moss St:

Austin Martin for sale: $5,000 CAN:

    Cook St. Village (in Fairfield):

    someone giving away rock art:

    my son likes them:

he also liked the old fire engine down at the local fire hall:

anyone with info about this? someone knows something...

    ford falcon:

    who's that in the window?

    an old truck:

Here's Vic High, designed by Rattenbury, a 19th Century English architect (murdered by his chaffeur who was bonking his wife) who designed many buildings here in Fort Victoria:

    I love the powerful lines:

Like an old, owlish English school master scowling down at you!

Francis Rattenbury - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Flowers!

Finally, let's head up to the Saanich Peninsula:

Here's a view of Mt. Baker, a volcano on the US side:

Finally, back to Fairfield. There's the Olympic Mountains and Peninsula (U.S.) onthe left, seemingly merging with the coast of southern Vancouver Island, on the right. Looking southwest:

I always enjoyed my trips up there. This is why I like living in the Pacific Northwest:

There's the Empress Hotel on the left and the Legislature on the right, both also designed by Rattenbury.

Apparently, Victoria was first sighted by Captain Cook. He judged it's natural harbour, open fields and oak forest ideal for a settlement, which led to Fort Victoria, a fortress/claim to counter Spanish exploration. Victoria certainly has an English look about it (with high tea at the Empress and red double-decker buses for the tourists).

Anyway, the idea for this thread is to wander around with your camera one day and snap whatever crosses your transom...

    Wait, that sounded wrong

I have a set of photos from a day in my hometown. I made them into a movie of about 400MB in size with a soundtrack. Anyone interested?

    ^Agreed; it's ridiculously slow.

So pics in the TD gallery stay on the TD server then?
