What are your financial concerns for the future?

What financial worries do you have for your winter years?

For me it's inflation. Everything seems to cost so much that any revenue from savings and investments will go nowhere.

In the UK today it costs GBP25 to go into Warwick Castle. That's 500 shillings - just to go in a castle ! My giddy aunt.

The UK Government is now giving people financial assistance to buy properties up to GBP 600,000. Now, to me, six hundred thousand is a lot of money, not benefit territory at all!

First time I went to Thailand was in 1989. It was a Kuoni holiday to Thailand and Egypt that cost a few hundred quid. That would probably cost two thousand pounds now.

What does that go up to in 15 years time? Ten thousand pounds?

I was hoping to spend my retirement going on nice vacations. Looks like a pipedream, and survival will be the priority.

None, both my kids are going to be hugely successful professional sportsmen so I'll just bludge off them. Simples.

In the meantime the cost of an international quality education will become very pricey!

However, I am not complaining about that, as it tempts providence to do so. One has to be careful what one wishes for, and wishes away.

Trend is a 5 - 10% rise per year if my current research is anything to go by.

No problem though, I'll just add a compounding 45% interest rate to it that they can pay back when rich and famous.

I dont worry too much about it. The world will probably be in ruins in another 20 years or so and by that time I will be to old to survive the post apocalyptic nightmare anyway. So like I said no worries for me. Feel bad for all the kids that will be living in it though.

Sure is. Have a friend in Bangkok says will cost him a fortune to send his two wee kids through International School.

I'm in £ and $, not baht, and its all in an offshore tax free fixed 5% interest account until it ends in 2015, about the only wise investment decision ive made, so my worries are more to do with baht strength and £$ weakness rather than inflation. Weve always managed to live within a varying income rather than needing a certain income to fund an unchanging lifestyle, but if things go sour here we will return to the uk full time, as opposed to winters here and summers there which is our plan at the moment for 2014 or 2015.

My gut feeling is that the baht bubble will soon burst, making life easier for expats here relying on foreign currency, but who knows what the future holds.

Too true. That's one reason why I'm happy at my new career as a teacher in an international school. It's a cunning plan to ensure that my young son can get a very decent and free education.

This is genuinely most peoples worry - I am relatively wealthy and i should not worry but I do - fear of loss is a major concern for everyone in their Autumn years

I'll be ok I reckon. Couple of years and I will be entirely debt free. Other than outgoings for school fees etc. I will be doing something wrong to not be saving a decent sum.

Not real worried. My pension is very good, and includes health care for me, wife (forever) and kids (until 21 or 23 if still in college). Wife continues to get about 70% of pension (forever) after I croak. Money is stashed away for the twins' college. Houses and land paid for, cars and bikes too. No debt at all. In addition to the college money, have a decent cushion in the bank. I also have a company here which brings in a decent income and has for 13 years (since I retired); one day it will go belly up, as companies do, and that may knock out some of the "extras" - maybe. But generally my only concern is the dollar (pension as well as payment from clients) sucks and costs (of everything) continue to increase. But, the big ticket stuff is covered.

They'll always be personal and financial chaos and concerns if you are perpetually bending over - playing their game.

Can you imagine their angst and worries if a majority of populations [individuals and collectives] refused to play on.....instead, free and idependent from the controlling and suppressive systems.

    Self-sufficiency and self-reliancy is a thorn.

It is difficult to comment on your post Rural - I think if I met you it would be like speaking to a Jig saw puzzle - what are you smoking?
