TD's Annual Songkran death toll contest! 2007!

Well, that yearly water fight is yet again approaching. Many people have forgotten the true meaning behind the Songkran celebration and have merely turned the holidays into getting drunk and wet.

To avoid arguments on when and where the celebrations start and finish, we will go with the Thai governemnts decree that the fun will begin on April 13th and end on the 17th.

So the question is. How many Somchais will perish in this upcoming festival.

    I say 689.

More pigs on the street post coup... but less order post Toxin... I reckon 742 with the majority of deaths occuring in Isan.

I reckon 1,676,435, of which 1,000,000 will be covered up, 600 blamed on drunken farangs in Pattaya, 76,000 beaten to death by irate neighbours for looking at naughty vids of you-know-who on youtube and whose violent deaths will increase Thailand's store of merit, leaving 435 to make it into the official statistics.
The Above Post May Contain Strong Language, Flashing Lights, or Violent Scenes.

A common Thai name for a male.

BTW, the winner will get hillbilly's BBQ ribs. I will send it anywhere!

Like the Thai's say 'jing-jing'. Your Ozark ribs will arrive at your doorstep (packed in that fancy ice stuff) All you have to do is heat and eat!

the last time I took part in one of these - on A****.com - I was involved in a very serious car accident. So, fear of karma and all, I'll say 463 and give this a miss

Can we all agree that the winning number must be be the one closest to the actual number with out actually going over the official death toll?

Hillybilly's BBQ is on the line.

So will the 355th person please note: you are not allowed to die. OK?

(And that makes my totally unrealistic estimate: 353.)

Yes, we did that here last year, the old folks and some monks sat around and the younger ones sprinkled water on their hands as a show of respect, no one threw a bucket of ice water with big chunks in their face and everyone was happy and ate a ton of grub.

I tend to say 611, but I'll go for 610 as I will definitely stay home for the next 2 weeks.

Though it's 500 more that it should be.

When I lived in Bangkok, I sneaked out of the condo to go to a 7-11 very early in the day during Songkran to avoid the water throwers and noticed that the 7-11 was being staked out by some "revellers". I took a chance and headed straight for the door and was very surprised to be politely asked by the two 16 year old lads if they could "please put some powder" on my face. I couldn't really say no and they very carefully patted my cheeks with the stuff and thanked me.

I proudly wore it all the way back to the condo (where I quickly washed it off).

I was also able, 10 or more years ago to walk from soi Ngam Duplee to Nana and meeting some youngsters on my way who politely asked me to put some powder on my face and a kind splash of water. That was a kind of fun, but now the matter is to make you look like if you had fallen down in the nearest klong. No fun anymore.

520 in reality minus the cover up by the thais who will put it closer to their expected number to instil confidence, in their predictions.
Then again we have the govenment hospitals report, and private hospitals and who ever else which sometimes report and sometimes not available.
so the real number will never be known.
still a sad thing and a waste of lives, TITS

Basically! Plus trying to see how many people can fit into a pickup bed. This photo was not taken during the Songkran holidays, but it does show why so many deaths occur when a truck is overloaded with passengers, combined with driving stupidly while consuming good old Thai whiskey!
