Keep practising the video making - editing, splicing, sound, etc. - although I'm sure there is lots of competition in this field. But your main expertise is in your knowledge of SE Asia. You have to get the content level up - more "in depth" analysis and interviews.

I sometimes catch a program on UBC called "Weird Things In China" or "Weird Things In Taiwan". I can't understand a word of it, but the subject matter is often very interesting.

Not every program, but quite often.

In fact, it's on right now on XZYT - "Weird things in Taiwan II". But they've been gabbling away in a funny language for the last five minutes, so it's been a bit boring.

^ The presenter having a go at eating one I imagine, putting him/herself in the picture to represent the disgusted yet maverick have-a-go westerner, scowling with disgust as he/she tries grilled tarantula for the first (and last) time.

Tried and attention seeking but not at all un-sucessful.

Teakdoor full of critics???? who would have guessed????

Atleast you are doing something creative........which is much harder than just criticising something..

I thought you had some really good shots ...the one of the cat coming from out under the chair and stretching his claws comes to mind...and you edit the footage you have quite well ....your choice of music also works well.
I know what you are saying about having bits of pieces of different footage and trying to put them together 'as one' .......it's not easy. I think you did pretty good for your first effort, and now you know what kind of footage you need for your next project ...things can only get better..

BTW: What software do you use? I'm betting you are a mac user...

My thoughts exactly - good first effort, good editing, good music (some very good) - just need to work on the subject matter. I bet that cat shot took a lot of patience, but well worth it.

Not bad, but not very good either. Next project you should focus on something you want to examine, and do it properly.

If you want to make a documentary about ladyboys, then focus on that. Burping seals and cats stretching are fun, but they didn't really belong in there.

The people featured need to be presented as well... Either by you/a narrator voice/or by letting them do it themselves in an interview, or possibly, more gradually throughout the movie. Otherwise you just annoy the viewer.

All those stretches with frying omelet, riding a motorcycle, a Thai person smiling at the camera etc. are ok as a general mood builder when you are zooming in towards the actual content, but they are not and can not really be the content itself.
What ever happened to that guy who went back in time? Did he make it back? Anyone seen his vid????
