Should be in travelling but may irk some mod or other.

Prompted by yet another thread on the transport mafia in Phuket, I have a need to ooze some vitriol.

It's the same old story. The same people who come here to escape their straight-jacket societies busily bitching and crying for Thailand to be turned into the same.

If they had their fuckin way the world would be paved over, policed and ordered to great robot-friendly safe standards, and all would pray to their God, whatever that may be.


Thank fuck there are still places in the world where I can get ripped off, abducted, eaten by lions and feel the insecure pulse of an uncontrolled world. That, dear idiot, is the pulse of life. I have no desire to be dead before I die.


If you want to be treated like a fuckin baby, go to Amsterdam or Berlin. A word of warning though, you may still be in danger. Piss in your pants quietly please.


To those that want to tour the 'uncivilized' world, be aware most places in the world are not nanny states. Take care of yourself, be aware and enjoy. Don't be a dumbfuck, unless you want to pay the price for it. Then go back to your safe robotland and STFU about how everybody else and everything else must change to satisfy your infantile needs.


Go pave over your own little corner of the world, you don't own it all.

You know, I think the people you are saying want a nannystate, actually just might want a semi decent expectation of saftey. Ya i dont worry if a car hits me, but laughing at what they consider acceptable electrical work here has made me wonder if Thailand isnt a few steps below 3rd world.
Taxi and bar rip offs? Yep has happened to me in Europe, but there, I didnt feel everyone was trying to rip me off.

And cant really say this is an Asian thing, because I never felt like that in Japan.

I think what irks people, the older ones mostly, is lamenting that what were once good destinations are now totally fucked.
If you are visiting phuket, then tuk tuks and taxis are pretty much all you have, and to be forceably fucked over where you once had enjoyable trips is a loss.

It's fucked not because of the locals. It's fucked because of the profile of those that come here, go there, whatever.

The profile of the expat/traveler has changed from someone with an independent, adventurous spirit farting around in a part of the world that spoke little or no English and had no safety net. That's why I usta enjoy talking to expats. They were robust characters who didn't need to search on an non-existent internet for all the info and advice on everything and everywhere before they could start to make up their weak minds on where to keep their fuckin eggs, or where to go.

Going not knowing is the interest FFS.

Today, it's grey lil Jimmy the clerk or bus driver or corporate slave that come here with their whinging, whining and need for travel and medical insurance. And bottles of water, and how not to sweat, and what fuckin colour handbag will compliment my sad grey face.

Which is why I don't mingle with expats anymore. I just swear at them on the internet.

Its fucked Terry, happy tho that I traveled thru Asia when i did,went to bali before it was touristy.

Walked on the great wall before the masses, had to shop in their awful friendship stores, saw East Germany when I did, when there was a wall and stayed in Moscow when it was properly commie.
