[quote=themook;274207]Mafia has become a generic term repesenting any Organized Crime Group. It could also be defined as a group that could be tried under the RICO statute in the USA.

I guess we've all known friends of friends who could fuck someone up but does that make me mafia?

To know that , we must introduce the time aspect.
If what's needed is only a phone call and then it happens instantly, yes you are probably mafia.
If it takes longer time, you're just a noob

We don't have a mafia here but you don't wanna fuck around with people with connections, life becomes very difficult, but as someone says if someone is shouting about their cinnections they are normally idiots, and cowards who are afraid to sort out threir own shit.

Didn't someone post a good interview with an American trained Thai copper who dispelled a lot of myths about Thai crime e.g 3,000 baht hit men, "mafia", balconey surfing in Pattaya etc etc... I can't remeber what thread it was in.

I found it very interesting to your reference on the "East Bay Saints". I haven't heard that in a long time. You must be from the Bay Area and as I was once in the "Saints" I was wondering if we might know each other. Never the less you were right on about the little guys with tattoos.

    Best regards,

There most certainly are organizations in this country, as with any other, that could seriously be referred to as "mafia." Well except they ain;t got no fuckin' Eye-talians amongst 'em. But their influence goes well beyond the cop on the street or a few hitmen in residence. Do they cooperate amongst themselves? Most likely. Otherwise, there would be Bombs going off and people getting killed, wait a minute scratch "most likely" insert "maybe, sometimes."

Back in the States there was always someone willing to tell you that this dude is "East Bay Saints" or that dude was "Norteno" and you better not fuck with 'em. Most (not all) little, tattooed bad-boys causing trouble and acting tough are of this ilk.

These little lightweight gangster confederations do look for ways to prove themselves and earn reputation. Avoiding conflict with people like this is always a prudent idea, backing down when cornered is not necessarily as prudent. If you can establish that you have the will to persecute any conflict as far as needed to ensure you are not victimized usually folks will be more reasonable with you.

Then again there are those nut-case, dont-give-a-fuck groups Mafias? Hardly. Still, unless they threaten you or yours best to leave 'em the fuck alone.

The name has certain familiar ring to it but then it's not an unusual name. I did time with a Filipino (I think) dude name of "Gunner." Shot dope with a another dude name Steve last name kinda sounded like Mexican for neighborhood, we were fuckin' the same chick for a while. She became my first wife, she went serious and straight, I went for the comfort of the state's hospitality. This was in the time between 1968 - 1973, I think. If we never met We sure shot pool in the same halls and walked the same streets.

Excellent suggestion danbo. I'll teach all the Thais around me to drop the 'mafia' and say 'MickeyMouse Club' instead. That way it'll sound less threatening to tourists.

I'm not sure that is what they mean though.

i can tell you a few stories noona, if you want to hear them you can pm me.

da boys would accuse me of lying if i spilled it out here but one things for sure. there is a dedicated crime network going down in thailand and they are known as mafia and act accordingly.

what do you non believers want to call them ?

naughty little boys running around with big fuck off guns.

    the thing is this :

if you are a normal law abiding punter you will never have trouble with the thai mafia as they dont fuk with the little people.

they aim for the big money players and thats why the business men get hit
and one can read about it every day in the post.

i think frank called them gangbangers and theres heaps of them around, but they are piss all compared to the big players.

I'm not disputing the existence of organised crime.
Just that the little fellas with tats that sell a bit of dope for a living ain't it whatever they claim.

There was a really good post someone posted on here once with an interview with a US educated Thai cop who dispelled all the crime myths about Thailand (3,00o baht hit men etc etc) Well worth a read but I can't find it now. I think William posted it first.

They champion falsehood, support the butcher against the victim, the oppressor against the innocent child. May God mete them the punishment they deserve
