    Fuck !!! Got robbed again

This is the second time. Damned.

First time, they robbed my office and forced the safe which had 80,000 THB + 40,000 THB in other currencies. Mind you the office building is a big famous office with security guards on every floor. Apparently they were sleeping or helping. I was one of 8 offices being robbed. The police didn't bother to come or make a report.

This is the second time, this time in my home. They took my PowerBook G4 but incidently they left the power supply (expensive part) so they probably didn't know what they were stealing. Left the other laptops on the other floors but this time they took the safe with everything in it, land paper, jewerly, cash (only 10,000 THB + 30,000 THB in other currency) etc... fuck !!! oh and the safe was hidden so suspicions is on the maid I guess. They forced the "expansive" windows and left all kind of prints. Not sure if the fucking police will even bother to show up.

I have been in Thailand for 2 years and I have been robbed twice already. Never before. I am starting to think that having a safe is useless and it's better to scatter things around in a casual way.

    Fuck !!! Fuck !!! Fuck !!!

Rant over, nothing to see, move along. Fuck !!! Fuck !!! Fuck !!!

What a bastard. One of the guys on the other channel just got robbed as well. One of the suggestions was to get a really good heavy safe....a 200kg jobbie.

99% of the time it will be an 'inside job'. Check your maid's credentials.

    Having one safe is useless.

    You need two.

One that the maid can see, this contains a few worthless documents and a bit of cash.

Another, that contains the real goodies needs to be properly hidden inside the house. Sink it into a concrete floor in the kitchen in the spot where the fridge sits or something like that.

Cash should be in the bank, you know that though.

Dont forget to tell your insurance that there was 300,000 baht in the safe

Yeah, it took 6 people to lift mine when we moved. Mind you, whoever might make the effort will be rather disappointed, I also 'spread' important stuff around the house, disorganised as I am.

Sorry to hear it, it is one of the less savoury elements of living in Thailand.
I had been in Thailand all of three months when my car was stolen by one of our security guards. He got about half a kilometre before crashing the thing into a Honda CRV, writing off my car and giving himself a fair few stitches to the head.

That's what the police said. They went straight to the hidden safe, passing by other valuables on the way. Everything was neatly ordered, nothing looked like a robbery.

It takes 2 people to move the safe. I am pretty sure it's the maid. I wanted to get rid of her for quite some time but couldn't find replacement. Trying to call her now. My bet is she is gone and won't come to work on Monday.

why stop at 300,000 THB ? I am going for the full 500,000 THB max coverage

Police is sending their CSI team after they found prints on the window

    Should get really interesting

Maid has boyfriend, husband, gik, brother, uncle - all working together. Hell, with her heist, the family can eat for a year.

Better to maintain a locked-office policy which you alone clean - no maids or folks with backgrounds you are not sure of. Whenever someone wants money make it known that you only keep money in your offshore bank & no cash at home. I have never owned a safe as it is a prime candidate for crooks.

Having lived in a country where crime is an everyday affair, I also made it known that I did not keep a gun on hand - as these are often what the rubbish are looking for. They also knew that I had a stout stick & strong arm on hand to wallop offenders - often accompanied with a bush-knife. They thought I was frigging mad & generally left me alone - especially after the time I demolished an entire ethnic village with a sledgehammer - even the dark coppers shook their heads & left me alone.

Keep junk and a bit of cash in the safe, the rest in a safer place.

^ yeah, forgot about the ID card, will see if she shows up. They didn't even took some cash laying around, and went straight to the safe.

The CSI team just left, came with their suitcases, gloves, took pics, fingerprint powder kit with brush etc... will see. I think in Thailand, all ID card have finger print on them.

Bad luck old chap. It seems to be happening a lot at the moment. Our maid has just buggered off with her boyfriend. Needless to say, we will change the lock downstairs.

Sorry to hear about this BF, next time you buy a safe mack sure it is anchored to the floor with a rawbolt so that it can't be removed without opening it.

of course every safe can be bolted to the floor or walls...but most are too laxadasical to bother...

must look a bit suspicious though walking out with a fokin great safe tucked under her blouse...

I hope you had the sense of offering him a glass of something to drink and keep it for fingerprints?

The problem is they might have not done it themselves, there is always help available here.

The Mac had all my porn and music collection. I have copies elsewhere, but everything was well sorted and organized on the fucking Mac

So having someone clean our house a couple of times a week because GoW often works more than 12 hours a day (and actually works, unlike most Thais) is colonial bullshit?

BTW, when I eventually get round to building my own place, I will have a live in maid/cook and gardener.
