What is it with ex-pats and bragging? They love to do it. It's always over superficial shite that they believe is important to them or makes them look like they are knowledgeable about Thailand and it's locals.

Some of the most common brags.

1. My wife has a degree
2. My wifes family is "connected"
3. My wifes uncles brothers dogs uncles friends uncles next door neighbour is the chief of police of Nakhon Nowhere.
4. I'm friends with somebody who is connected
5. I'm friends with somebody who is the chief of police Nakhon Nowhere
6.My friend is a millionaire

she aint got a degree,

she has got some pissy little plot of land in nakon nowhere,

i met her in a bar....

maybe i got this bragging thing wrong hey....

The only braggers I seem to come across are the ones who think they are Playboys of the western world, and they ain't married.

I don't know...maybe you are being a little harsh...

People are people and many are always a tad defensive.

But perhaps even moreso here. There are so many negative stereotypes thrown around here that you can't really blame some for wanting to dissipate those stereotypes from the outset - if only for their own self-esteem...

Although she is connected.
She does have a few million stashed away.
And she has a degree in management.

I don't deny that Thais love to brag as well.

I really have noticed recently though how much expats on forums and in person are justifying things or just trying to make themselves look better than they are with a name drop here and there.

Bragging get's you unwanted attention.
It also makes people loss interest in you.

Most braggers have a problem with their banking system, I know because they always need that helping hand till the glitches are sorted out. Funny, that.

I think Thailands the only place in the world where when you meet someone he imediatly tells you , my wife's got a degree, connected, rich ect. It's all just euphmisums for saying "my wife's not a whore"....who cares.

I am not a bragger, I come from the elite of my country, dine & wine with celebrities whereever I go, and my gf doesn't need a degree, since I frequent the offices and homes of anybody important in the area we live, this, of course, is a result of my having learned the lingo and know all about the culture of Thailand, took less than a year to build all this, don't understand why these underachievers find it so difficult to come to terms with Thailand and the world in general.

I rarely mention this, nor the fact that amongst my stock of mia nois are a few names better not mentioned, since they are gossiped about on TV and magazines which concern themselves with the private lives of the hi-sos.

I used to be a senior consultant for MI5, so I could have any problem being taken care of in a flash, but the badgering of the envious lowlifes who inhabit cheap bars and obscure online fora rarely bothers me.

The recent 1mil diner event was a bit of a flop, nice food, though, I almost did a review on it in here, but realised the audience in here wouldn't appreciate the difference between a 1956 Chateau de Berquere and a glass of fizzy drink.

That alludes to another part of the problem with complaining about bragging.

Sometimes, a person is simply stating a fact about something they have/do/whetever. Someone without immediately views it as bragging.

Man tells his tailor he has 10" on the flop. Tailor says he's bragging. Man says he's not. He just wants to make sure the trousers have the required room...

Fine line sometimes.

For the record, I stopped using that tailor anyway.
