    I'm considerning accepting religion

I've been teaching about the big bang theory and such like for the last week or so and it's got me thinking about how it all came about. The students asked lots of tricky questions about where the matter initially came from. Why it was there etc etc etc.

It got me thinking about "Why?".

Why did it all happen? I like the oscillating universe theory but it still doesn't answer where everything came from initially.

So I've started researching different religions to see if any of them fit my needs.

So Muslims, Christians, Scientologists et al why should I choose your religion and how does it fit with my scientific understanding of things?

Get off your arse Mrs. Q and do some research for yourself. You asking us is more like "blind leading a blind".

Start your own religion. Easier than all that tedious Bible reading.

    Mrsquirrel,

Try Buddhism, and I don't mean a narrow sect version of it. It is completely compatible with the big bang theory as an evolutionary principle and doesn't deny the existence of all things, simply accepts them as part of a supreme being, ie. totallity.

Don't need to even believe anything or explain Gods or infinity, guilt or sin.
Just be who you are, yourself (ie. follow your dharma) thus resolving personal conflict (karma) as a means of achieving truth, or "enlightenment".

Mate, I respect you an I respect your beliefs, but that's not exactly true!

Many versions of Christianity do wholeheartedly accept scientific theories and ideas.

Born again Christians and what are usually termed Fundamentalists do not.

Versions of Christianity, yes you are correct but I don't consider version of christianity to really be christianity. People will always change the rules to suit themselves.

If you wish to explore the Big Bang theory personally you should consider becoming a Muslim extremist.

Mr.SkewRell, as it appears that you are about to re-locate to Korea, I'd suggest adopting Christianity. Korea is now almost 60% Christian - it could stand you in good stead.

I worked in Korea four years ago and taught at a sunday school of happy clappies. I had to lie and tell them I was Canadian and a Christian. I only worked for 25 minutes or so and got paid 60,000won for it. The remaining part of the hour I sang songs and clapped alongside them. They were really nice happy people.

This arguement you will loose then.

Because Catholocism is the most direct version having come straight from Peter whom was appointed by JC to lead mankind, Catholics can trace every pope back to Christ.

Protestants were 'born' of the fact that King Henry wanted a divorce and the Church would not let him.

To use the bible as the only source of Gods word, is also flawed since it was written by a number of different authors over a period of centuries, often based on the previous oral tradition and has been translated and modified since, and the Nicean council 'choose' the books they wished to incldue and those that they did not.

So as far as choosing a version - the catholics have the most direct. (notice I did not say correct!)

I quite like the concept (not universely accepted by Catholics or many Christians) that there is many pathways to God for many different types of peoples.
