If you're a bit skint, why dont you just cook her dinner at home with candles and romantic music.

Do you know that the german word "Gift" means poison?

Anyway, I thought about getting flowers delivered. Do you reckon it is too late now to get it done?

I never thought I would have a romantic idea but it just happened.

Well, i've booked mine into a Japanese resterant at a 5 star hotel, they provide the works, multi-course candle lit meal, wine, flowers, and I'll bring her a new dress to wear that night also.

its a simple equation, girls love being treated on valentines day (and most other days too) you can never go wrong with this stuff, dead simple really.

my wife has thrown me an interesting curve ball.

she wants to go for dinner, then after dinner have some drinks at the pub near my work (the nice place that i am always talking about where i go with my friends, yeah the one on the credit card receipts she keeps finding in my pocket).

ofcourse its the bloody filipino bar with the mamasan who is currently ripping me off.

i think i will have to feign sickness somewhere during the main course so we go home early and give the drinks a miss.

The Welsh don't celebrate valentine's day... we have a much older and more sincere celebration steeped in history... "diwrnod santes dwynwen".

St Dwynwen's Day is celebrated in Wales on 25 January. But who was St Dwynwen?

St Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, which makes her the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine.

Dwynwen lived during the 5th century and was one of the prettiest of Brychan Brycheiniog's 24 daughters. Dwynwen fell in love with a prince called Maelon Dafodrill, but unfortunately her father had already arranged that she should marry someone else.

Dwynwen was so upset that she could not marry Maelon that she begged God to make her forget him. After falling asleep, Dwynwen was visited by an angel, who appeared carrying a sweet potion designed to erase all memory of Maelon and turn him into a block of ice.

God then gave three wishes to Dwynwen. Her first wish was that Maelon be thawed; her second that God meet the hopes and dreams of true lovers; and third, that she should never marry. All three were fulfilled, and as a mark of her thanks, Dwynwen devoted herself to God's service for the rest of her life.

The English, Americans and white Aussies didn't even exist in those days.
