Vacation for the liver! and staying motivated

My as I love a good glass of beer, wine, single malt scotch, russian vodka, french cognac, Mezcal or Havana rum, there comes a time for when my liver needs a holiday.
Not to mention the extra 8-10 kilo spare tire that has mysteriously metamorphosed around my waist.

I'm trying to figure out how much money I'm going to save. Maybe an average of 1000 baht a day will be the savings. 700 baht bottles of rum or 1600 baht bottles of mezcal add up!
Shit I think my booze budget was more than most peoples salaries!

My 50 year year old liver can't take it as well anymore.

I'm sorry to say I think I've joined the ranks of the wimpy livers.

I've noticed more health oriented threads lately.

So any tips on staying motivated are welcome.

Any snide comments will be noted, ignored and hit squads dispatched!

i quit drinking a month ago.
my conservative savings estimate is 500 baht a day, representing 10 small bottles of sing.
A much closer figure would be between 7 and 900 when tuk tuk costs and cigarettes are factored in.

i stay motivated by going to the gym, something I couldn't have done on the booze and by daily updating my sanctamonious signature.

I have cut back my drinking by a bottle a day. No more fatty foods, no more potatoes, and no more garlic bread. 8.5 kilos down in the last 10 weeks. About 5 kilometers a day on a bike, and swimming 30 laps 3 times a week. But no beer at all and I could not live here. It keeps me sane.

I've given up the booze this year and I'm on a meat, veg, fruit, and black tea diet.

It's cost more to feed myself and I don't think I've lost a single gramme. Excellent!

I've been swimming most every day, I'm hoping to increase my distances to swimming 800 meters at a time.
Your daily tally inspired me too. But I think I'll cover the cost of my motorbike quicker at 1000 baht a day!

As I said, the 500 a day is very conservative.
I think i had convinced myself that was all I was spending.
My wife thinks it was nearer to 800 and she is probably right.
Nice thing is that this is a very tangible saving.
Today i hit the 15,000 mark and put it in a new account where it will remain for the next four years to meet it's monthly friends.

    translates to 180,000 a year ... nearly a million over 5.
At that point I shall buy something nice probably some land and will flaunt pictures in front of all the kunts down the Irish bar who think I've lost my mind.

Much better than working overtime and i am far less likely to kill myself on the way home or argue with friends or lose my job.

Lots a snow in Alaska, eh?

The financial reward is hardly a consideration for me, LaoKao is 230bt per gallon.
Well, I managed a few days with 2 cans of beer only, and got really drunk only twice this month (as far as I remember).
My plan is to start doing some work in the evenings, got to keep a clear head for this.

Used to drink every day. used to have money then too. Didn't have a girlfriend, but soon found one. Then I had no money, and no girl, then I stopped drinking. Have the odd one, when with friends. Probably saved a shit load of money, never calculated it. Now I 'apparantly' look younger, better, whatever, and I know my body feels better. Is it worth it? To me yeah. I would like one day to see a grandchild.
Took me a long time to finally figure it out.
    Moderation the key.

    Nope. In BKK.
Actually I wasn't thinking along the lines of a loan (I have started to go native) more a sort of barter relationship . I get someone to finance my beer consumption and they get to hear all the asshole things I get up to at the end of the night.

Win win. I save some money and you get to thank your lucky stars you have given up drinking.

On second thoughts perhaps i have not thought this thing through sufficiently ( heck i really am going native - help)

I quit going to the Old China Hand every day and now just get shitfaced once a week on average with one (max 2) tall cans of San Mig after work/before bed.

I quit smoking (unless shitfaced) and I am going to the gym about twice a week.

My diet is much healthier, constanty snacking on baby carrots with Hellmans, Ryvita with cheese and lots of bananas.

None of this has cured my frequent bouts of severe depression but I think that's down to anxiety regarding my work, my future and this Fillipino tart.

^worrying about the future is pretty fruitless. We just never know. Tomorrow I could get clubbed to death by a rabid tuktuk driver!
I do know that if I abuse my liver too much now I won't be able to enjoy the free 12 year old scotch they serve in business class on EVA.

I know moderation is key. But I find abstinence from time to time is good too.

Or did I mean absinth is good from time to time too?

A couple of dry months wont hurt too much...I hope.

Shot in the face by a local Muslim after running your mouth, more likely.

    High alcohol contents.
Cough syrup should keep you off the booze and make your comments a bit more sedate and digestible...

I read all of the posts before responding to your OP Mr. Earle.

Did you go to the doctor and get your liver enzymes and blood checked?

    I'm assuming you did.

One medically proven way to protect your liver in addition to quitting drinking is:

    Taking Milk Thistle

    Drinking black coffee (certain kinds)

    Best of luck.

I notice the Marmite is off the piss or taking a break as well as Chaing Mai Noon.

Me still drink beer at night but not as much as I used to. It's harder to absorb and makes me bloated.

    Cheers.
