Thanks. Now I can't afford my new house and will lose the deposit. Have fun in Cambodia as this "Seppo" makes an embarrassed and costly withdrawal.

How dare you show such glee at the misfortune of others?

While mad dog's rationale is not the best, we all have reasons to want the exchange rate to move one way or another.

While some will undoubtedly lose out, others will benefit.
Can't possibly take it personally, it's all a fuking gamble.

    I usually lose.

Does it make me a bad person that I truly hope that the Thai economy collapses (a-la' 1997) causing widespread chaos, a severe drop in the baht and general devaluation - recovery from which will take several decades - thereby earning myself a nice little 'unofficial' pay raise (albeit a wholly underserved one at that)?

    Yours,

Sorry cheif was only having a laugh.... I'm only getting 67 baht to the pound from focking HSBC so my British based stipend is getting smaller !
I admit to Schadenfreude against cousin seppo but now I realise I too am in discomfort.... Taking pleasure in my own misfortunes.... Jesus I am sick son of a bitch ...

AC Is this true?? Someone here should give you an interest free loan. A lot here say they are skint but they are actually loaded. Like millionnaire bums.

Yeah. That Welsh bloke has stopped drinking.
He must have saved enough to buy a house by now.

see my sig for savings up to now.

It's a very conservative estimate mind you.
I don't think I've spent more than 100 baht a day all month (except for my round of golf on Tuesdays.)

Probably stayed in his room biting his toenails in between burning his fingers chasing yabba and jumping at the slightest noise outside, imagining they finally caught up with 'im.

Well, it's my own fault. My pension savings plan allows a once-in-a-lifetime withdrawal for things like the purchase of a retirement home. When I set this process in motion some months ago I allowed for the taxes that would be withheld, the purchase price of the house and and some "extra" to cover the the cost of building out the kitchen, furnishing the place, doing the garden, etc.

The appreciation of the baht has already eaten up the "extra" and leaves us with just about enough to pay for the house. If the baht goes up much more we'll have trouble making the final payment. If it says as is, we'll be able to make it, but won't have money to do the kitchen, etc.

Totally my fault, but distressing just the same.

Yes, what with the baht going up it has cost me about 6K baht for every $1000 I bring in, sure makes what we buy in baht a lot more spendy and has raised my monthly expenses about $200 on average.

I'm sorry to hear that. Let's hope the Thai economy crashes big time and you get back your losses. I'm sure things will turn out all right in the end.

I was raging around town doing lines of e on the bar of the walkabout by the end of the week Stroller... You might like it ... You might actually be able to buy some real drugs here not just the paracetemol and baby laxative your "ladies" sell you.
