^ I didn't bother with this thread as the Ashes finished yonks ago, but some dumb-fuck southerners don't seem to have realised that yet...

CRICKET Buchanan within days of pinpointing Aussie problems by STAFF REPORTERS

"any ideas, Watto?" Retiring Australian coach John Buchanan believes he is only days away from isolating the reason for the teams dramatic drop in form, after completing a preliminary analysis of spreadsheets, video footage and player psychology reports from the Chappell-Hadlee series.

Buchanan told thebladder.com he was certain the data would eventually yield results, but could not yet quite put his finger on what had caused the 3-0 defeat by New Zealand, or Australia's run of five consecutive one-day losses.

Its very intriguing, Buchanan said. In this morning's graph charting our runs scored on the off-side against the creases in Scott Styris's forehead, there was a surprising correlation I was sure must be significant. But I'm stuffed if I can pinpoint why. I calculated the airtime of each of Matthew Hayden's sixes, multiplying the mean result by the 32 fours and 10 sixes scored by the New Zealand team. Again, a hint of an answer but nothing. Finally, I measured the aggregate pointlessness of the Chappell-Hadlee series against the sound waves registered by a tree falling in a forest, but again I came up empty-handed. Oh, if only there was some way I could find out where we've been going wrong.

"Pipe down there in the dressing room" Buchanan tells Phil Jaques and Brad Haddin.

Bloody hell, we played with 4 or 5 top players out of the team, new blokes blooded to international cricket and still scored plenty of runs....the bowlers got a bit of experience and confidence and away we go..bring on the World Cup I say...

i normally avoid this game of who's in and who's out as you are only as good as the team you field on a particular day!
