I've been buying running shoes for over forty years now; since the time when the only brands you could get were Puma and Adidas and the shoes were either blue or black.
Since then I've always shunned the colorful gimmicks and other garbage that manufacturers feel the need to add to almost every model. I've always sought out basic running shoes; usually on sale.
Moving to Thailand was a bit of a challenge at first. All the major brands are here, but I can't really afford to spend 5000 baht on a basic pair of Asics.
I finally settled with the Thai brand D-maQ. They are quite decent, mostly unadorned shoes that are really built with a runner rather than circus clown in mind.
I purchased my latest pair yesterday; on sale for 1200 baht. I love the model name: "Crazy Run". They are completely gray, which means I can wear them on a long walk in Bangkok without looking like I've just escaped from the Washington Square cabaret show (or the old folks corner at the Lone Star). And, they cary an unknown feature which the D-maQ folks have intriguingly decided to call the "Magic Hole".
How can I help but break personal records with a show named "Crazy Run" that features a "Magic Hole"?
Note that the web site is decently designed with a working English section that is as unadorned with crap as are their shoes. "We care for your feet!"
