Golf in Chiang Mai ...Hang Dong Golf Course

The Hang Dong Golf Course in Chiang mai is a relatively new 9 hole golf course situated on the canal road about 15 kilometers out of ChiangMai centre.
It represents by far the best value for money golf course of the 10 or so around the city.
Blink and you'll miss the sign, it's no wonder it took me so long to discover it.

Green fees are only 350 baht for 18 holes, including the caddy fee.
    Exceptional value for money.

The large club house does decent food and small beer sing costs only 40 baht which they woill hapilly serve you before your 8.30 a.m. tee of time.

By the time you get to the fourth tee, it is about 8.45 am and you will probably feel like a few more beers.
Fortunately the Thais have thought of the foreigners needs and there is a little bar situated behind the third green.

The course has lots of beautiful water features and the fairways and greens are up to a genuine standard.

This is the view over the water at the par 3 fourth, a semi island green. 140 yards slightly downhill and reachable with a firm pitching wedge.

If you look closely you will see a ball about 8 feet to the right of the flag.

Needless to say I missed the put and only just made the return one for par.

Might see it better in this picture taken as I was strolling cockily to the green.

In the back ground you can see Doi Suthep and in the foreground a nice yellow flower, probably a daffodil or a daisy or something.

After 9 holes, you cvan retire to the club house in order to imbibe a well deserved liquid lunch.

The second 9 holes are played from slightly shorter tess, which is just as well because I've never reached the tenth befor drinking 6 small bottles of sing.

A nice view of my clubs and a water feature.

Anyway, Little Chuchok, the caddies range in looks and age.
Once you have found one that you like, you can request their services before you tee off.
    I recommend number 34.

You are expected to tip the caddies between 100 and 200 baht.
Don't bother giving them anything if they can't read a put or judge the distance to the pins.

I missed this birdie put on the last because I was a bit drunk and the caddie was ignoring me.

    A highly recommended day out.
I'm off there again tomorrow morning.

I thought it had more to do with Thai lifestyle than actual real sport.
More of a hobby type of thing.

I'm sure that you have lost the plot old son.

This is how you should answer the following question under normall operating circumstances.

    Q)What caddy should I pick?

A)The one with the biggest tits of course.

    Golf Vibes

Hi to all golfers in Chiang Mai and Thailand. I am admin for the Golf Vibes site mentioned in earlier posts.

Chiang Mai is indeed an integral part of the Golf Vibes forums, mainly because I live, work, and of course play golf in Chiang Mai. As a golf only website I would like to welcome your opinions and input.

With regards to the Hang Dong course, it is indeed a welcome addition to the Chiang Mai scene - A very enjoyable course at reasonable prices that includes a couple of par 5's and some tricky par 3's.

Caddies: I am happy with any caddie that doesn't commentate on my shots just before or after I take them. For example, when a putt is short 'uphill' is the comment. Anyone heard that before? Any other assets you care to mention are a bonus.

I look forward to hearing from you all,

    Benzil.

BTW: Anyone looking for English golf lessons and video analysis of your swing should visit the Green Valley driving range in Mae Rim (Chiang Mai). The A2B Golf Academy has just opened its office there and is priced the same for expats and Thai's. Just ask for Kitti.

Chaingers you sound a bit like a guy that I played golf with many years ago in Yeppoon.
I was living there at the time and me and my mate used to play every saturday in the afternoon comp. One day we turned up at the first tee to meet the other 2 guys in our group, one of them was on the same handicap as me, I was on 8 at the time. Anyway he teed of and hit his drive straight up the middle with a slight draw around the dogleg. This guy could seriously hit it like a pro. Walking up the 1st fairway he opens his first stubby, hits his second onto the greeen and two putts for his par, by the time we get to the 2nd tee he has finished the stubby and cracks another. This keeps going on for the front nine, all up he had finished a six pack and was about 2 over. In the clubhouse he skulls 2 quick pints and buys another 6 pack for the back nine, my mate looks at me says what the fuck is this guy all about.
The stubby a hole policy was beginning to take its toll and his game was going downhill fast! By the time we got to the 18th he was only just able to walk, we get to the green and he is totally fucked, only just able to sign his card and was nearly on his hands and knees and has is mum waiting in the carpark to take him home.
The most bizarre day of golf that I have ever witnessed.
