After a shaky start, te mighty Railwaymen have made a charge up the table, thanks mainly to Nicky Maynard....

Grimsby 0-3 Crewe

Crewe recorded their first win of the season as they brushed aside Grimsby at Blundell Park to reach the second round of the Carling Cup. Nicky Maynard gave the visitors the lead when he latched onto a Luke Varney ball to race clear and neatly finish from 12 yards.
Michael O'Connor rifled in a fierce shot home from 18 yards after picking up Varney's ball.
Ryan Lowe scored the third from the penalty spot after Maynard was fouled.

Brighton 1-4 Crewe

Crewe came back from a goal down to win their first league game of the season. Dean Cox put Brighton ahead when he turned in Richard Carpenter's shot before Billy Jones levelled after pouncing on a loose ball to slot home.
Kerry Mayo was sent off for the home side after a foul on Nicky Maynard and Ryan Lowe converted from the spot.
The visitors extended their lead after the break when Maynard headed into an unguraded net and then scored from point-blank range.

Crewe 2-0 Huddersfield

Crewe claimed their first home win of the season as striker Nicky Maynard scored a brace against Huddersfield. Crewe deservedly took the lead when the referee decided to give the home side the advantage when Louis Varney was fouled and Maynard fired in.
Crewe added a second in the 53rd minute when Maynard poked the ball past Terriers keeper Matt Glennon.
Luke Beckett nearly hauled Town back in the game in the 77th minute only to toe-poke Michael Collins' cross wide.

Nottm Forest 4-0 Chesterfield

Nottingham Forest continued their fine start to the new season with a thumping victory over local rivals Chesterfield. The visitors had the best of the first half but were foiled by Paul Smith, who brilliantly saved Colin Larkin's shot.
Jack Lester headed Forest in front from close range before Neil Harris scored his first Reds goal, a superb volley.
Grant Holt struck from the spot after he was fouled by Aaron Downed and new signing Junior Agogo set up Nicky Southall to lash in from 20 yards.

Calderwood hails dedicated Harris

Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood says Neil Harris' superb goal in the 4-0 win over Chesterfield is just reward for the hard work he has put in. He said: "Neil spent last season on loan with Gillingham but told me in the summer that he wanted to give it a real go with Forest and he has done that.
"Even though he was disappointed not to be in the side at the start of the season he didn't let it bother him.
"He just got on with his job and is getting his rewards. I'm delighted."

Crewe 3-1 Cheltenham

Crewe Alexandra cruised to a comfortable win over Cheltenham Town. Nicky Maynard opened the scoring for Crewe, clipping a clinical finish across Town goalkeeper Shane Higgs.
Cheltenham equalised in fortuitous circumstances just before half-time when Brian Wilson's effort crept into the bottom-right of the goal.
But Neil Cox ran the length of the pitch to meet John Otsemobor's cross to restore Crewe's lead and Luke Varney added a third with nine minutes left.

Crewe 1-0 Millwall

Luke Varney's second goal of the season gave Crewe victory and left Millwall still without an away point this term. Varney scored after 65 minutes, taking advantage of good work by David Vaughan to beat Millwall keeper Chris Day.
Millwall created the best chances in the opening 45 minutes, with Crewe keeper Ben Williams saving from Chris Zebroski and Poul Hubertz.
Crewe survived a late Millwall surge, with Marvin Williams, Hubertz and Alan Dunne all denied by brave blocks.

Crewe 5-1 Carlisle

Ryan Lowe netted a hat-trick as Carlisle crumbled at Gresty Road. Carlisle took the lead when Karl Hawley slotted in, but Luke Varney tapped-in an equaliser before Lowe side-footed Crewe ahead on the stroke of half-time.
Lowe made it 3-1 when he collected Billy Jones' long ball before going past Peter Murphy and volleying home.
Varney headed home his second after a good save by keeper Kieren Westwood before Lowe wrapped up Crewe's fine win with a stunning 90th-minute free-kick.

Crewe 4-3 Gillingham

Luke Varney grabbed a stoppage-time winner as Crewe came from 3-1 behind to beat Gillingham. Stunning strikes from Alan Pouton and Michael Flynn put the Gills 2-0 up before Nicky Maynard slotted home to make it 2-1.
A poacher's effort from Dean McDonald restored the Gills' two-goal lead but Rodney Jack's shot made it 3-2.
Danny O'Donnell headed in the equaliser on 89 minutes and Varney volleyed home a dramatic winner.

Crewe 2-1 Port Vale

A Luke Rodgers spot-kick earned injury-hit Crewe a dramatic win over near neighbours Port Vale. Gary Roberts hit a post before teeing- up Nicky Maynard for his 11th of the season on 32 minutes.
But defender George Abbey smashed his first goal for Vale to put the visitors on level terms four minutes later.
A draw certain until Rodgers was brought down by Colin Miles in the 94th minute he took responsibility himself and made no mistake from 12 yards.


No wonder Robbie Williams is so depressed!!!!!!!!
