The 11th Phuket International Rugby Tens.

    Phuket Vagabonds RFC

Coming up in a few weekends time is the 11th Annual Phuket International Tens, starting on Friday May 29th 2009.

This year after years of disappointment we have secured the Sarakul Stadium on the road into Phuket Town near Central Festival.

The pitch was returfed by FIFA a while ago and was recently used by the Thai National Team to host the Kings Cup after the airport closure late last year.

24 teams in the Main Competition from as far away as the UK and 12 teams in the Veterans competition. The added excitement being that the draw has thrown up a clash between the hosts THE PHUKET VIAGRABONDS and their pals from THE OLD BANGKOK BANGERS, the winner taking home the Weasel Cup.

Two Teak door members will be playing for the hosts and I'm sure there is only one of them people would want to see get hurt.

It'll be a fun weekend and a huge amount of beer will be drunk.

I went to the Rugger at the Horseshoe Point arena just recently and throughly enjoyed the action.

I was particularly impressed with the Thais and they have a few big boys amongst them and was empressed with their ball work and enthusiansm. The final was played between the Thai A and B side and was a beauty to watch.

Also had a few ciders with Thai Pom which was also enjoyable and apart from the heat these events are well worth the effort and for those that take the time to put them together.

The beer girls also participated in a few rucks every time they brought a tray of drinks around.

Good luck with your tourny Bob and I hope you get a big turnout!

    Hopefully.

The tournament has become a big fund raiser for the Asia Centre Foundation who look after orphans / Underprivileged children in the area, many as a result of the 2004 tsunami.

I think the number of children on scholarship currently stands at 92.
