    World Cup Memories

Schumacher the German goalkeeper flattening some poor French bloke - and getting away with it.

Last world cup was the first ever soccer game I ever did see. Some of it I actually liked but only because I was winning 1,000 baht a game of the local bookie who was an 'expert'

hehe....I was listening to a show on the radio where they listed the top 50 World Cup moments and I thought, that would be a brilliant idea for a thread.....I'll persevere for one more day and then let it fade quietly away.

Rivaldo going down like a sack of spuds at the corner flag when the Turkish player gently passed the ball to him.
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

First one I remember was 1986, Gary Lineker, Maradona, Mexico, great stuff, didn't hurt too bad when we lost.

Since then I only have memories of bitterness and pain and hitting things.

1990 - Gazza, Waddle, wanky German cheats.

1994 - I watched the first game on acid and all I could see was the drops of rain spreading across the screen in multi-colour - I wondered what was the point of trying to kick the ball one way or the other - hippy groovy man

    1998 - Owen, cheating ****y Argies, French ****s.

2002 - Seaman, dubious decisions towards certain countries, crappy Germans, fucked up seedings.

A headline from the BBC sport site today:

    Terry Butcher's view on England
"What England must do is start with a win against Paraguay

I remember Beckham missing a tackle in the Brazillian half and thinking, 'They'll score here'.....and they did as well.

Scotland losing to Peru.....at half-time the tele had an car advert with the Scottish footballers kicking and heading a ball and laughing....
