All Black fined for handbag brawl

Now i have often heard the commentators describe a"fight" between sportsmen on the field as "handbags at 10 paces' but i didn't realise that the All Blacks practice this aspect of the game. Professionals to the last drop.

"Umaga then grabbed a woman's handbag and hit Masoe twice across the head, at which Masoe allegedly burst into tears."

And they were on the same side it would appear.
Drinking in a bar at 7.00am. sounds like it was a good night. A bit more difficult to carry out in LOS

well, fucking hell, what can I say.

It's actually a bit of a Samoan thing to blub when an elder gives you a hard time infront of people.A bit like loosing face, but they blub instead of getting shitty.Masoe actually had a swing at a guy who he thought tripped him up.(It was 7.30 in the morning)Masoe used to be a good boxer, so he must have been well oiled at 7.30, cause he must have misssed the first punch. He's quite a solid lad as well.

Tana picked up the nearest bag and smacked him over the head, just like giving a teenager a clip around the ears in Samoa.

    He was fined about THB70,000

    Handbag fetches $22,000

    4/06/2006 502

Nicole Davies is more than $22,000 richer.

The Christchurch woman put her handbag up for auction on TradeMe after it was used by Tana Umaga to slap his teammate Chris Masoe about the head last weekend after an all-night drinking binge.

It was all go last night as the final hammer came down.

The TradeMe website crashed for about ten minutes right as the bidding came to an end at seven o'clock, due to unprecedented interest in the auction.

The hit-counter clocked more than a million page views when the auction finally closed.

    The last bid was $22,800.

TradeMe says despite a few miscreant bidders that was the highest confirmed genuine bid.

The owners of the Jolly Poacher bar where the incident happened last Sunday morning could not be happier.

Owner Ira McCully reckons they have done alright out of it too.

She says the exposure has been great for business.

She has fielded phone calls from all over the world, including friends in Canada and England.

Ira McCully initially did not understand why everyone was going mad for the bag.

But she says it is just funny and she assumes people want a laugh.

    Anmd so it continues.
    From the BBC website today

"New Zealand Ire at "Handbag Haka""

An Australian TV advert portraying New Zealand rugby players carrying women's handbags has upset the All Blacks

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/5153506.stm

I wonder if it inspired them to their win today
