I have been informed, the New Zealand prop got all clear to pay Wales a visit. What was that all about? They realised him from a cage?

    'shove' apparently.

he's been excellent in his first 2 games, only 18 and looks like he's solved our right wing problems for the the time being.

^Yep, stumbled and fumbled his way through a season then called it quits. Now playing for Toulon I think, a shadow of his former terrifying self.

playing in France earning the big bucks with Tana Umaga.

can't be selected by NZ if you play outside of the country.

any case, fact he was born in Apia Samoa should have disqualified him in the first place.

Not really. Just the logistics of it all make it almost a necessity. If you've got a player in the NH for instance, the difference in seasons make it difficult for them to be avaliable for the national team. And if you're going to be picking the top 30-odd for a squad to represent as the national team doesn't it make sense that they should be picked from a competition where they're routinely playing against others competiting for the same spot.

    Yes, really.

Most other international sports manage to do it, as well as other international teams within RU.

    Ridiculous.

^Yeah but you have to remember The All Blacks like to get their squad together about 6 months before the world cup so they have plenty of time to train together in how to yet again fail to deliver the goods when it matters despite being over whelming favourites.

If we're going to go the route of what 'most other sports do' then that's a whole other can of lemming like worms. Besides which, the All Blacks don't and you can't argue with the facts which are they've done pretty well to this point without it - even against teams that do. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Unless you're Dan Carter, in which case you can get 'special leave'.

Yes but Dan Carter is also the worlds best player and walks on water as a hobby.

It's the very least that they can do for him.

Thought I'd try my hand at a head-to-head, no sense starting a new thread so here it is:

    15. Muliaina - Byrne: Mils looked good in his return game but Byrne's been playing well too. Even.

    14. Rokocoko - Halfpenny: Will the youngster be able to handle the Rock? i don't think so. Adv. NZ.

    13. Kahui - Shanklin: Kahui's another in form player and looks to possess the size and speed to make a great centre, vision's still in question though. Shanklin's a wise old head but lacks pace these days. Even.

    12. Nonu - Roberts: Not seen a lot of this Roberts chap but what I have he seems quite good. Doesn't matter though, Nonu's added a subtle kicking game and is going from strength to strength since making the 12 jersey his. Adv. NZ.

    11. Sivivatu - Williams: One of the more tantalising match-ups. As per Williams gives away a lot of size to his opponent but neither's been in their best form recently. Giving Williams the slight edge here owing to his history of playing well against the AB's. Adv. Wales.

    10. Carter - Jones: No contest. Adv. NZ.

    9. Cowan - Cooper: On form Cowan probably just shades this one. Positional wise with Weepu likely off the bench too slight advantage to NZ. Adv. NZ.

    8. So'oialo - Powell: Difficult this one, and another good match-up. I know what So'oialo can do. Moreover what he will do; a tireless performance and high work rate. Powell's still an unknown quantity but was spectacular in his debut against the Yarpies. Also Gatland - who knows forward play - thinks enough of him to shift Jones to allow for his inclusion. Too hard to call. Even.

    7. McCaw - Williams: There was a time when Williams could've been able to be bracketed with McCaw. This isn't it. Adv. NZ.

    6. Kaino - Jones: Kaino's the better ball-player and athlete in this match-up but has been disappointingly muted recently. Jones by comparison's solid if, at times, unspectacular. On that basis, Adv. Wales.

    5. Williams - Evans: I know next to nothing about Evans and Williams has been in great form. If only on that basis going to have to go Williams. Adv. NZ.

    4. Thorn - Jones: Thorn's an often times over-looked and always underated legend. Jones isn't. Adv. NZ

    3. Tialata/Afoa - Jenkins: Tialata or Afoa, doesn't really matter. Adv. Wales.

    2. Mealamu - Rees: Realatively similar players in a lot of ways. What Mealamu has over Rees in the loose he loses in throwing and vice-versa. Even.

    1. Woodcock/Afoa - Jones: If Woodcock recovers in time then this is easily another Adv. NZ, if not then even.

So by my count in this entirely meaningless and ultimately pointless comparison that makes it:

    NZ - 8 (or 9)
    Wales - 3
    Even - 3 (or 4)

I just think it's not fair on the players who would like to a) earn more money, or b) play proper rugby. The NZRFU are holding the players to ransom with this.

    Ridiculous.

^Nobody's stopping them from leaving to go play elsewhere for more money. It's only that if they want to play for the All Blacks and represent NZ that they have to play in NZ. And fair enough it is to; would you expect to be paid for your services by Co. X if you decided to go off and work for Co. Y?
    b) play proper rugby
