    McClaren named as England manager

The FA have now officially appointed McClaren as the new england manager on a 4 year contract. It was really a closely guarded secret wasn't it?
I hope he isn't being paid as much as the swede
Who will be mangaing Borro next season?

    The return of Robbo?

The worst appointment since Graham Taylor. An absolute done nothing manager who has never shown the slightest signs of molding a good team at Boro despite all the highly paid, and highly paid for, professionals on their books. At least the England team more or less picks itself. This appointment is a real low point for the FA which has fully exposed their inadequacies. The slightest hint of an underperforming England side in his reign and the backlash will be of never before seen proportions.

What is annoying the most is that we do have an excellent group of players, who with the right guidance and tactical astuteness should be a force over the next four years. Under Mclaren? Give me a break.

I take it that's not Malcolm McLaren, of Sex Pistols notoriety.

Shame. He'd liven up the kit, anyway.

At least we're getting rid of the useless turnip, I mean Swede that is currently leading the team nowhere.

Eriksson had his 5 minutes of glory when we beat Germany 5-1 all those years ago....it's been downhill ever since.

Give the guy a break, he has not even started in the job yet.

If he can give the team a bit of backbone for the crucial matches then, with the players we have, it should be enough.

Don't know a great deal about McClaren but it's good news to have an Englishman leading the team again.

^ He hasn't really done the rounds as a club manager - ok , Middlesbrough have had a good season this year but that's about it.

Then again he does have a lot of experience with the England team being Sven's No.2 for several years (that could be a bad thing though!)

    Who knows?

Middlesbrough are currently 13th in the league. They didn't play anyone good on their run to the FA Cup semi's, where they were knocked out by West Ham, and the UEFA Cup is now a competition so devoid of any real quality and interest that it wouldn't suprise me if it is scrapped altogether in the not too distant future. With the money that Middlesbrough have had to spend on transfers and wages, and the players they have been able to assemble i think they should have been able to perform far more consistently than they have.

Mclaren is an inexperienced second rate manager, who has now got one of the biggest jobs in world football. We need a man with Champions League and League title success, or who has proved himself at international level. One that has proved that he can get the most out of his players on the big stage. Sadly there isn't an Englishman that fits that criteria.

Still, good luck to him, and i hope he proves me wrong.
