    Jakarta Cricket Sixes

Singapore Spirits grab Jakarta cricket title
Damar Harsanto, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Spirits Cricket Club of Singapore ended their eight-year title drought by winning the 2008 India Cements Jakarta International Cricket Sixes here Sunday.
Spirits, who have joined the annual event since 2001, outshone home favorite Senayan CC (B team) by 18 runs in the final of the tournament at Ceylon cricket ground in Cibubur, East Jakarta.

Three-time Jakarta Cricket Association champion, Senayan, won the toss and elected to field first.

Senayan's bowlers had first and second overs, with the Spirits only scoring 16 runs. However, Spirits' Sandeep Puri and Aaron Bagnall managed some big hits to post 65 by the end of allotted five overs.

Spirits handed more pressure to Senayan cricketers thanks to opening bowler Trevor Larbey's flying start in the first overs.

Despite some lofty hitting by Senayan's William Noronha, Senayan found the 65 target unassailable.

The eventual victor, Spirits, defeated Penang Sports Club of Malaysia in the quarterfinals and sent packing 2006 and 2007 Jakarta Cricket Association champ GMIS in the semifinals to book their final slot. Meanwhile, Senayan cleared quarterfinalist Jakarta Globe Tigers and semifinalist Ceylon Cricket Club to earn their final berth.

Spirits' Aaron Bagnall was awarded the Best Batsman and the Most Number of Sixes, while teammate Sandeep Puri was named the player of the tournament for his consistent batting and bowling throughout the tournament. Senayan's Aijas Matoo won the Best Bowler award for his tidy performance throughout the tournament.

Sunday was also a bad day for another Senayan CC team (A team), who were competing in second-level competition Plate, as they succumbed to the visiting Bali Geckos in the Plate final showpiece.

Apart from the final matches, the organizers also held an exhibition game featuring school teams from across Greater Jakarta, including Karawang, Bogor, Bintaro and Cibubur during the break.

Could be the fact that you have a picture of DC in there. That's enough to scare anyone off.
